  • bunq: bank of the future - Concept

Welcome to the new decade!

Just to make it clear, I do not speak for bunq. This is a concept and it is unofficial in the broadest sense of the word. With that out of the way, welcome to the bank of the free, now also the bank of the future. We have made banking yet more simple, powerful and free of frustrations!

Simplicity

We offer many subscriptions, from Travel to SuperGreen, but there is a downside to offering so many of them. We try to give what our users want, but we also don't want our users to be overwhelmed by giving them too much to choose from or, even worse, surprise them with unexpected charges. As such, soon, we will switch to our simplified set of subscriptions.

  • bunq Travel (€ 0.00/month)
  • bunq +1 (€ 2.99/month)
  • bunq Pack (€ 19.99/month)
  • bunq Personal (€ 4.99/month)
  • bunq Business (€ 6.99/month)

Will I lose features? Will it cost me money to get those back? Will the world end? None of these! At least, I certainly hope not that last one. This is where Extras will come in.

Pay for what you need

With Extras, bunq Personal and bunq Business users will be able to expand their subscription with an additional set of features. That is, only if you need them. This way, you only pay for things you truly need. Don't need them? We will hide these features from you in the app and you get to save some money for fun stuff like traveling abroad. There, you can immedietly enjoy our awesome Travel Card and ZeroFX feature!

As the keen among you have noticed, the bunq Premium and bunq SuperGreen subscriptions are missing. But, actually, they aren't! These are now Extras you can add to your bunq Personal or bunq Business subscription, respectively called Premium and SuperGreen. This allows our users much more freedom of choice. Do you prioritise features? Get Premium! Want to save the world without the fancy features? Go SuperGreen and plant some trees with us!

  • Invoice and Receipt Scanning (€ 1.99/month)

Wanting to feel fancy whilst saving the world and using all features bunq has to offer? Combine all Extras and pay for the entire subscription € 16.99/month as a user for bunq Personal or € 19.99/month as a user of bunq Business. That's a sweet discount!

bunq Premium users will be switched over to bunq Personal (or bunq Business if they have a business account) with the Premium Extra. bunq SuperGreen users will be switched over with the Premium, SuperGreen and Invoice and Receipt Scanning Extras. These users will be eligable for the discount.

Need something that is still outside of the scope of these Extras? With Additions, your feature set will be complete. Additions include things like extra cards. Additions differ from Extras in that you can only add only one of the same Extra to your subscription, whereas you can add the same Addition multiple times. For example, you can only include one Premium Extra in your subscription, but multiple Extra Card Additions.

All of this can be managed from the app in one neatly organised menu.

New support features

We strive to make your experience as frictionless as possible, but in the rare case issues arrise, let us soon as possible through the help screen, now more personal than ever. Find your solution in the Together community or let us help you through Chat or by Phone.

Overhauled help

You can message us directly from the app and a support representative will take a look at your case within moments (during our available hours). Don't have the time right now or is support closed? Not to worry! You can always reply whenever suits you while support will respond as soon as possible.

Is chat not working out for you? Schedule a phone call! Tell us which time would be appropriate for you and we will call you up. Scheduling allows us to give you our utmost attention without you having to go through any waiting lines.

More about the app

So, you thought that was it? Well, that's actually not the case. Here comes some more!

  • Give view-only access to friends or family for any bunq account.
  • Insight into where you're spending or saving money (e.g. food, shopping).
  • More charting options (e.g. pie or bar).
  • Track monthly subscriptions and other upcoming payments.
  • More detail on how your money is being invested.
  • iDEAL QR codes can now be scanned with the bunq app.

Why?

I immedietly fell in love with bunq when I first heard about them. Their gorgeous app made banking simple, yet incredibly powerful with features one could only dream of. Being able to discuss this on Together is only just one of such features. With this concept, I hope to exemplify what made me, and I assume many others, like bunq so much.

How?

This concept is based on both the feedback from the community and my own personal feelings. With every decision I made for this concept, I try to keep the spirit of bunq intact. At the same time, I made sure current users would not have to worry about suddenly being switched over to a subscription that's more expensive, missing features or is too vastly different (for that is a complaint I heard a lot with the introduction of SuperGreen).

      I really like the Together view, with the direct access to a new chat.

      Also „pay what you need“ is something i really love. Full customization also means a more complex billing system for bunq😂

        @jelle619#167617 Well done. I think you managed to turn out the best of the current update. I would love to have something like this in my bunq app. It would allow me to feel at control and pay only for the features I value. This is the way forward. Thank you for this creative approach.

          @Lui#167624 I sure would like to include Pack users, but it's quite a tricky thing to get right, which is why I haven't included them. Currently, it seems like the biggest "flaw" is that the Pack is paid by only one of its users, the "host" so to speak. Ideally, each person making use of the Pack should pay an equal amount of the subscription. However, the question is how to implement such thing properly. If you have any ideas, let me know!

          As for the more complex billing system, this is kept a minimum by using this "Extras and Additions" system. Instead of paying as you go, possibly leading to unexpected costs, the user knows what to expect to pay for their bunq subscription.

            The screenshots are nice. But let's be honest, you are asking for a discount for 'normal premium' users. And that isn't going to happen.

              @Victor-Turquoise-Lion#167664 that's not what's happening here. bunq Personal (costing € 4.99) plus the Premium Extra (€ 2.99) would be equal to the bunq Premium we have today in terms of features (the same goes for premium business accounts). In terms of costs, it would only be a "discount" of € 0.01, which I wouldn't call significant.

              bunq Personal is supposed to be cheaper and not as feature-rich as bunq Premium. I think it's important to have a subscription like this, for € 4.99 is for many more intising than € 7.99 and can be someone's difference between sticking with their bank and switching to bunq.
