• Re: Account names at Belastingdienst

As bunq has decided to end yet another discussion by closing the other topic, I have to create a new one to reply to their statement.

@bunq So basically you say that the account labels are legally binding and served to the tax office as evidence of intent? Left bare without context to their interpretation and security.

Fraud fighting is of course okay, but please be clear about the data sharing when setting an account label. I don't think a lot of people know that all the funny names and stuff are going to be shared with official entities. They can have embarrassing (but innocent) text that you don't want to have pointed out in an investigation, communication or maybe even openly spoken out in court.

I wonder how this works with Emoji and CJK text. This should really be made clear when creating the account.

@Jakob-Y#169482 Emoji's don't show up, you'll see some other characters instead.

Would be nice if those accounts are shown as "Betaalrekening bunq" without using the name a person has given them. This way the belastingdienst won't get the wrong impression if you have called a account eg. "witwasspaarpotje".

@Delano#169524 I’m glade the Belastingdienst hasn’t called me yet to ask what’s up with all the dog accounts I have “dog food”, “dog toys”, “dog gadgets” and “dog massage” 🤨 ...

But all fun aside... I would prefer if that name isn’t automatically passed to the belastingdienst.. especially since it isn’t necessary for them to know :) And I think for the majority of the users it also has little value during the periode of filling out the tax papers.

Anyway, for next year I will open a bank account with the name “Belastingdienst is my best friend, so please don’t audit me” 😂
