My thoughts on V3 -
Spoiler alert.. its going to be a constructive one ;)
First things first
Regardless of what you think about this update, I know for a fact that a lot of bunqers worked around the clock with little to no sleep getting V3 ready. So, please show at least a tiny bit respect before you go all wild here (and going complexly wild will not change anything).
Experiment on another dog
After V3 got launched I did an experiment on my wife (hmm that sounds wrong.. haha). I asked my wife to update and aks her what she thought of it and if she could show me some things, for instance on how to reassign a card 💳. My wife liked the new look and she was mostly enable to find the things I asked her to find. Keep in mind, my wife isn't tech savvy and isn't a diehard bunq user. So, my point is.. there are happy users that doesn't always feel the urge to post that anywhere :)
My Conclusion
Before I go into some details I wanted to start with my conclusion so far. The best way for me do describe it:
- it's a diamond in the rough. And you don't discard a diamond, you hold on to it... and polish it until it blinds your eyes :). So for me it isn't about how the app looks right now, but how it will evolve over time.. let's see what happens this year.
So is the app an A+? No, it isn't... at least not yet! But I have faith it will get there soon. It is also common in application development that you never start with a 100% version, you always wanna deliver fast and keep a steady past in adding new stuff.
Some recommendations
I'm not going through the whole list I have in my head :) Did that already during Beta :P
Tiles and Counters
In general I like the concept of the tiles and counters. I think it works. Yes, before you go all mad and type a reply, there is still lots of work to do :). The design feels now a bit to basic, could be lot more sparkly. I kind of miss an eye for design details, but it will get there.
Saving Time / Money and other counters
I can understand that this can ben informative for new users. But for me, as a long time user, the value of these number are almost zero, but still I see them all the time. My recommendation:
- It would be cool if I could choose from a list what type of info I want to show on Counters. That way I see info that is always of value for me.
- Dont mix semi fictional numbers with real numbers. In the Money Saved counter I see fictional number but also actual savings like Saving Goal. Because bunq mixes both type of numbers, it loses all its value for me.
Navigation
I would like to see some improvements:
- Be consistent in where to place a setting. The main reason why I have to search so much to find stuff is because settings aren't always on the right level in the navigation. For instance, the overview of all accepted Direct Debits can be found on a individual account level, but that isn't where I would look. I would look on a higher level because its about all accounts and not just one.
- The + is a bit confusing for me. I see it as universal quick menu cause it is a flowing button, but it is context aware.. I wouldn't have done that with a floating button. Also the button has a + symbol that indicated to me it always is for adding stuff... but that isn't the case. The + button is also in the way of text often.
US
Right of the bat: the Insta feed isn't bothering me. But do I think it should be in a banking app? No, I dont. I would rather see some more US and less bunq here ;) Let's say, something like Together (once it has becomes a more positive place if I might add).
Trees trees trees
Yes, the app is full of three stuff. Does that bother me? No, not at all. I love planting tree myself :) I think it makes perfectly clear what kind of bank bunq wants to be and on what user group they are focussing. You like that, or you don't. The tribe competition isn't really my thing tho.
My closing argument
That was it John? Well, yes for now. I gave a more detailed feedback during the Beta. So sure bunq will take a look at that too or probably already did :)
Have a great weekend all!
