• ATM withdrawal using a bunq travel card?

Hello,

Can I use my bunq travel card (which I think is a credit card) to withdraw money from an ATM?

Thanks,

@Hassan-Teal-Panther#191733 Yes you can. All ATMs that support the Mastercard network (most do) can work with the Travel Card. Keep in mind:

    • The ATM provider might charge a fee for using the ATM. In many countries you can also find ATMs that don't charge extra fees, but it always depends.

    • If you're not withdrawing Euros, the ATM provider might offer you to exchange currency for you instead of charging you in the local currency. This is always a very bad idea, because the ATM providers have terrible exchange rates. Always decline this offer and make sure you're being charged in the local currency of the country where you're withdrawing money. (Sometimes they make it a bit hard / unobvious which button is the right one to click, but that again depends on which ATM you're using.)

Is it possible to withdraw cash without a physical Bunq card? Do you just tap your phone on the ATM reader?

@Matthew-Lime-Dragon#224920 If the ATM supports that, then sure it could work. The only ATMs here in my vicinity with this functionality limit it to that bank's own customers so there it doesn't work for me, but that's deliberate on part of the ATM operator.

In certain countries you can also withdraw cash in shops like supermarkets and drug stores by generating a barcode in the bunq app. Then you also don't need a card. Currently limited to Germany, Italy and Austria: https://together.bunq.com/d/14531 But I expect this will get more popular in the future as an alternative to ATMs (like, generally, not just at bunq).

@Jakob-Y#224930 Hey thanks for the response! I'm living in the Netherlands (where I use my phone to pay for everything with Bunq) but travelling to Portugal tomorrow. So I was thinking there may be places there which dont accept credit/debit cards and only cash. If there was any way of withdrawing cash from an ATM without a card I could use Bunq but it seems unlikely then from what you say so I will come up with another way. Thanks again.

            Is this still applicable?
