I wasn’t aware that the card cost €7,99 a month! It says in all the advertising that it’s a free card. In June I started getting charged €7,99 a month. That’s a total of €96 a year, well that’s not free.
Does everyone pay €7,99 a month to have a pre-paid credit card?

@Lisa-Purple-Penguin#206047 Hi LisaLou, welcome to the bunq community forum. You can see all available memberships here: https://together.bunq.com/d/3892-what-subscriptions-are-available/11
If you only need a credit card, then you can switch to the Travel membership and don't pay any monthly costs. If you want a fully fledged bank account with multiple cards, then the Premium membership (which costs 7.99 Euros / month) is needed.
I only have one card. How do I switch?
If I click on anything then they send me a whole new card!
Unfortunately it’s a trick of bunq because I never signed up for a premium account. I was asked if I wanted to start saving money on my bunq card for vacation so I ticked on Yes and didn’t realize I was signing up for a premium account. Now if I want to change my subscription I have to cancel my entire card and make sure that I transfer my money out (to where) I can’t transfer it to any other accounts, and any remaining funds on my card will be totally lost and they will mail me a new card. So I’m pretty much stuck in the subscription that I wasn’t even aware I was signing up for, not very good service. I’m super mad and highly irritated because I do not like being tricked!

@Lisa-Purple-Penguin#206052 You can go to the Profile tab, then open the Settings menu (cogwheel on the upper right) and open up the "My membership" menu. There you can switch your membership model. Of course you can also close your account altogether if you prefer that. Your funds will not get lost. Even on the Travel membership, you can always use your card to spend them, withdraw cash at an ATM or you can send your whole balance to an account of yours at another bank.
Here are some articles I searched for you that might help you:
- Change membership type: https://together.bunq.com/d/3317-how-do-i-change-my-subscription
- Withdraw money while on Travel plan: https://together.bunq.com/d/13634-how-do-i-withdraw-money-from-my-bunq-travel-card
The two links you have now sent me I’ve clicked on them and their only option available is to completely close the account and get a new card there is no switching subscriptions you have to close down the account totally. So I guess I’m stuck with an account that I don’t want and I don’t really have a choice but all the other prepaid cards out there cost around €150 a month so then I guess €96 is cheaper.

@Lisa-Purple-Penguin#206055 I can't see myself what state your account is in (as I'm also just a community member), but if you feel like you cannot solve this on your own, it's probably a good idea to contact bunq support. They can be reached through the support chat in the app or via e-mail to support@bunq.com.
I'm sure there is an option for you to keep using your account with the membership type that you wish for (so i.e. if you don't need a bank account but only the card, you should be able to downgrade to a Travel membership). The private support should be able to look at your account and answer specific questions related to that.
If you feel unsure about how services are billed at bunq, feel free to also take a look at the in-depth pricing sheet from their website: https://www.bunq.com/pricing-sheet Wish you all the best! ☆

It's correct you must close sub-accounts as you don't keep a bank account with the Travel membership, neither any other card than a Travel Card (Mastercard Credit). You'd only have to choose to order another card for Travel if your current card isn't a Travel Card. Can you confirm the card is actually a Travel Card and says Mastercard Credit under Home > Cards?
Otherwise I'd suggest reaching out to support under Profile > ⚡️ > Support to see if they can help you out.
@Tim#206057 Yes it’s just a pre-paid mastercard. I have no other accounts

bunq doesn't have such thing as a pre-paid card it's either a Maestro Debit, Mastercard Debit, Mastercard Credit (aka Travel Card) or a Metal Card (also of the type Mastercard Credit).
All other types than a Travel Card are solely for Premium or SuperGreen memberships.
Well I have a card with a mastercard symbol on it and I transfer money from my normal bank (ABN AMRO) to the card, when I need to use a credit card for something then I use the Bunq card. I wasn’t aware that it wasn’t considered a credit card since it has a MasterCard symbol on it and I’ve used it several times as a MasterCard credit card.
And when I signed up for the card I signed up under prepaid credit card via their website. 🤷🏻♀️

A Mastercard isn't necessarily a credit card, it can also be a debit card as I mentioned above. This is shown on the card image under Home > Cards > Tap a card. But I don't think we can explain it any better so I suggest reaching out to support. They can immediately spot your card type and I suspect is isn't a Travel Card hence why you need to order one for switching to the Travel membership.
