  • What is the limit of my bunq credit card?

Cuanto tiene la tarjeta de crédito

@New-Violet-Unicorn-493978826#206142 The limit is how much money you put on the attached account.
bunq doesn't offer a “real” credit card with credit, or any other forms of a loan. The card is a real creditcard, it's branded and recognised as such by terminals. You only have to provide "your own" credit.

Tim changed the title to What is the limit of my bunq credit card?.
        a year later

May i apply for a credit card?

@New-Mauve-Hyena#232055 If you have a bunq account, you can order a Mastercard.

@Bastiaan#206144 That’s what called a “debit card”, not a “credit card” in England.

@Golden-Eagle#234449 bunq basically offers a card that works like a debit card for you, but like a credit card for the merchant. Most banks don't offer a card that works exactly the same.

Think of it like a credit card without a credit line. A bit like a secured credit card (common in the US), but one where you pay directly from your deposit and you can always change the deposit amount yourself if that makes sense haha.

In any case calling it a debit card would also be wrong because it for example cannot be used at stores that accept only debit cards (because it's chipped as a credit card) and for example if you buy something on the 10th of the month you still earn interest on the money until the start of the next month even though you already spent the money, something which wouldn't be the case for payments with a true debit card.

The used BIN prefix “511580” for the Mastercard types of bunq cards do indeed still get recognised as a credit card prefix taken over from chase bank in the USA, but it does indeed work like a Mastercard debit card, as you can’t borrow against the card limit like the ICS Mastercard credit cards in the Netherlands.

And also take into account that some stores in the Netherlands simply won’t accept any Mastercard type of cards at all until the Mastercard company will kill off their Maestro brand of cards as announced recently and therefore force all merchants to support the Mastercard brand of cards in a distant future.

The Netherlands also does not use credit scores like they have in the US/UK for persons in the Netherlands, despite that credit rating agencies such as Experian are also active in the Netherlands and credit scores could be calculated in a similar way in the Netherlands as well.

Interest from normal bank accounts is too negligible and could even turn into more negative interest next year, so why even bother with the low interest rates, when you can have fully audited companies such as nexo providing up to as high as 12% annual interest rates on euro, dollar and pounds deposits.

@Golden-Eagle#234549 What site are you using to check the BIN prefix? I'm using https://binlist.net and entered the first 8 numbers:

Donc en fait la carte credit fonctionne comme une carte de crédit mais en fonction débit et en ligne de "credit" de par notre solde du compte.
Mais les transactions sont débités à l'instant T comment les intérêts sont calculé du coup

Et pourquoi les loueurs de voiture ne veulent pas de la carte bunq pour les locations surtout au pays bas.
Perso j'ai pas tester encore mais j'espère que cela va fonctionner en Espagne et à New York
