Hey bunqers 🌈
With Brexit being in effect since January 1, 2021, opening new bunq accounts from the UK is paused. This means you won’t be able to start a new account using a phone number/address based in the UK. This includes all bunq plans, both Personal and Business.
I already have a bunq account and I live in the UK. Can I continue using it?
If you already have a bunq account in the UK, nothing changes - you can continue using all of your products and cards.
As an already existing British user, you can perform the following regular activities including:
- Changing your account's plan
- Open new bank accounts (Regular IBANs / Local Currencies IBANs)
- Order new cards
However, you can't:
- Open a new Personal or Business Account
- Add a new director to your Business Account
- Use Easy Investments
- Re-open your account after terminating it
bunq is authorised and regulated by De Nederlandse Bank. Because our services have been open to UK users, we’re deemed authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and subject to regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and limited regulation by the Prudential Regulation Authority.
After Brexit, bunq is required by the FCA to be part of the Supervised Runoff Regime and to publish the following statement:
Authorised and regulated by De Nederlandsche Bank. Deemed authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority. Subject to regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority and limited regulation by the Prudential Regulation Authority. The nature and extent of consumer protections may differ from those for firms based in the UK. Details of the Financial Services Contracts Regime, that allows EEA-based firms to operate in the UK for a limited period to carry on activities which are necessary for the performance of pre-existing contracts, are available on the Financial Conduct Authority's website.
