I'd like to provide some more information which could possibily help your development team debug the problem:
Previously I had used a virtual card to pay for a DigitalOcean droplet which, a couple of months ago, was blocked. Their support team let me know that Bunq was automatically blacklisted by their payment provider due to 'suspicious activity'. Potentially related to the fact that it is so easy to create a MasterCard and the high number of such cards Bunq's users are creating?
Today we ran into another issue with PayPal. I'll walk you through the steps we took:
- First, my partner tried to make a payment with her Travel Card. This seemed to fail because PayPal was not able to perform an ID-Check.
- Next we decided to use one of MY virtual cards and we both received a notification to accept the payment. We accepted it on her phone which we couldn't and got an error for from Bunq. We couldn't read the whole notification and couldn't find any event in her phone. As an aside, the authorization step now show up as Events Awaiting in my Bunq app which, oddly enough, I cannot Deny (Error: Only the cardholder can authorize this transaction.).
- At this point, we learned that the authorization notification also shows up on my phone (which makes sense considering I am the cardholder AND the owner of the account. So, we tried again, were able to accept the authorization request but then the payment would, again, fail (HTTP 400 from payment on the webshop checkout form). The transaction shows up as failed in the account. PayPal lists the reason it failed as 'Card transaction was denied due to incorrect CVC'. We double checked, still got the same error.
Hope this helps to narrow things down or sheds some light on other areas to take a look at.
