  • [FIXED] Android: Activation of Tap&Pay not possible, wrong error message

Since bunq is still not supporting Google Pay in Austria, although it would be available since November of the last year, I have to use Tap&Pay. Recently, I changed my phone and, therefore, I had to activate it again. However, this is not possible, because I always get the error message "Missing or invalid push id" and it seems, I am not the only one (see https://together.bunq.com/d/22246-tap-pay-problems-on-android-10-collective-topic/36).
I am using a Pixel 5 with Android 11 and the bunq app version 16.4.2.

I had to reinstall bunq app. When activating Tap&Pay is was not possible anymore, error message "Missing or invalid push id" I am using a Pixel 4 with Android 11 and the latest bung app on (08/March 2021)
Please give us a solution to resolve this.
    Thanks

      Hi bunqers πŸ‘‹

Thanks for reporting this to us!

Please note that we recently disabled the Tap&Pay feature as we keep striving towards constant improvement of the app and Tap & Pay does not fit in this picture. We let users that previously activated Tap & Pay use it on their devices, however we are unable to offer it to users that currently want to activate it (on new device for example).

Google Pay is a great option as well and it practically works the same. If you wish, you can find out more about Google Pay and how to enable it in this page: https://together.bunq.com/d/8480 Currently, it is indeed available only in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and the UK.

Your understanding would be much appreciated!

Have a nice rest of your day 🌈

        Hi @Nikoleta#217900,

thank you very much for your explanation! However, a better error message would be good to prevent confusion. At the moment it looks like a bug and not like an intended behavior.
And one question: Why is bunq not supporting Google Pay in Austria? Google Pay started in Austria in November 2020 - the same date as in Netherlands and Portugal. In these countries bunq users can pay with Google Pay from the first day on. Do you have any plans for Austria too?

        Thanks,
        Dominik

Das ist sehr sehr schade. Ich benutze ein Fairphone 3 ohne Google-Software. Damit fΓ€llt fΓΌr mich auch GPay flach. Damit hat sich bunq fΓΌr mich im Grunde erledigt :(

            @der13teFreitag#217931 Hi Dominik πŸ‘‹

I checked this for you and it's up to a mutual understanding between us and Google Pay, so we can add Austria as allowed country. Thank you for your interest on the matter, we'll forward the feedback and push it as much as possible from our side, but it's also dependant on Google's cooperation. Once we have more information we'll make sure to post it in Together 🌈

For now I wish you a great weekend ahead πŸ™Œ

              @farbs#218154 Hello Fabian πŸ‘‹

I am sorry to hear that Google Pay is not an option for you, but could you please check what NFC payment option you have on your phone, as there might be a workaround in your case. Both your understanding and cooperation would be appreciated πŸ™

@Nikoleta#218158 Thank you very much, Nikoleta!

                  This is really disappointing!
When I contacted support, because I was unable to set it up on my new phone, I was told it would be a bug and the developers would take care of it.

Discontinuing this feature like this is really bad in terms of handling it:

                  • you should properly announce this beforehand
                  • you shouldn't make it look like a software bug

This basically kills bunq for me - I was so happy to finally have found a bank which offers:

                  • no-nonsense on-boarding - just easy and straightforward
                  • payments automation
                  • multiple (and unlimited) sub-accounts
                  • works on rooted and/or Google-free devices
                  • provides an API

I haven't found any alternative so far which only offers 50% of that :(

                    5 days later

@Elias-Lime-Zebra#218214 Let me know when you do.
                    I've had it with bunq.
Was asked to reinstall due to a bug. Lost Tap&Pay.

No idea where my old card is.
And all this nothingness and trouble since v3 for a premium monthly price...

And all I read is "have a great day" and "I'm sorry to hear that"

Hello, what to do in Malta?

You didn't announce and do not support Google Pay for Malta.

                        Hi bunqers πŸ‘‹

We have not announced this as it initially only concerned new users who now don't see the option to set up Tap&Pay. However, it is also not possible to activate it on a new device if you previously had it, or activate it on the same device if you had the feature deactivated as the system recognises it as a new entry, I am afraid. For the time being we advise all Android users to refer to Google Pay and in the meantime we will adding more countries to it.

As for the Android users whose devices don't support Google apps I would advise to check what other NFC options are offered for your phones.

Your understanding would be appreciate πŸ™

What is ETA for all EEA countries including Malta?

                            Back to ABN Amro then...

                              @Mark-Maroon-Zebra-2151785081#218626 Hi there πŸ‘‹

I can't provide you with an exact time frame but we're working towards this and will inform you as soon as we enable Google Pay for other countries.

                              Cheers,
                              Nikoleta 🌈

Horrible communication, tap and pay is the only reason for choosing this bank. Now to find out after buying a new nfc phone for tap and pay only to find out it won't be supported anymore. Back to abn then why pay more for less

This really is a bummer just changed to a Fairphone 3 (you know the trees...) and decided to go googless with /e/ and to my suprise no tap&pay anymore tried this quite a few times and had to find out in this thread I need to go to Google again. Thought by now an internet bank should know by now that privacy is not a common thing to expect in the realms of the Google household.

You mentioned some other options should exist but without any information what that could be, I'm happy without all the Google crap on my phone everything runs way faster and battery life more than doubled.

Hope you can give all of us some indeepth information what alternatives beside gOOGLE are available, so I don't need to look for alternatives, besides this I'm a very happy customer, but knowing me this will become more irritating when time goes by!

                                  Cherio,
                                  Lourens

                                    Hello bunqers πŸ‘‹

Please note we have also adjusted the error message so it does not cause any confusion when trying to enable the Tap&Pay feature.

For the Android users whose devices don't support Google apps, please check what other NFC options are offered for your phone. In case we have more information about this we'll let you know, of course!

For now I wish you a nice weekend ahead β˜€οΈ

I too have just reinstalled due to a different bug (missing payments in overview, very concerning) and am now running into this issue of not being able to reactivate Tap&Pay.

I would prefer not to use Google Pay, but it seems that point is moot as I can't activate Google Pay either!

Add to this the failure to send replacement cards and bunq is looking like it's having a LOT of issues. It's been downhill since v3.
