• Bunq Travel Card

Hey everyone,

I have a question. I really wanted a debit/credit card, so I was looking around and I heard positive things about the Bunq travel card! But there is one problem I am under 18, so I was wondering if I can get a travel card? I know I can use the maestro card, but lately a lot of new programs that I use requires a MasterCard.

Thanks,

Laurens Hillen

@New-Golden-Bobcat-2833220574#227629 First off: bunq does not market their Mastercard as "Travel Card" anymore. Maybe you have looked at some out-dated websites that still refer to the products with older names and may have incorrect pricing. So first I would recommend you look at bunq.com to make sure you know the current product offering and pricing.

After you have done so, you will probably have noticed that there are three plans that are available at bunq: Easy Bank, Easy Money and Easy Green. They come with different feature sets, but in all plans you can freely choose the type of card that you want to get. With Easy Bank you're limited to 1 card that's included in the price, and with the other plans 3 cards are included, but you can always choose the type of card yourself.

Also it's important to understand that bunq does not give out any credit or loans. Not to minors, and not to adults. So regardless if you use a Maestro or a Mastercard, they will work exactly the same for you as a customer. You can only use the money that is on your account, there's no possibility of debt. The good thing about that is of course that bunq does not have any special requirements for getting a Mastercard, so to finally answer your question:

But there is one problem I am under 18, so I was wondering if I can get a travel card bunq Mastercard?

Yes, you can. And it's usable world-wide, it works for online purchases, subscriptions, hotels, rentals, restaurant, supermarket etc. pretty much whatever you can do with any other Mastercard, you can also do with your bunq Mastercard. As long as you have enough money on the account.

Legend! I was wondering if you have a link to the Mastercard by any change? I could not find ):

@Jakob-Y#227630 Oh and ''With Easy Bank you're limited to 1 card'' do you mean 1 MasterCard and 1 Maestro card or 1 Maestro and 1 MasterCard. And can you add both cards (Maestro and MasterCard) to google/ apple pay?

@New-Golden-Bobcat-2833220574#227631 I don't think there's a special page about the card, it's just a Mastercard. You probably know how these work. If you're interested in the design, it looks like this (hasn't changed since it was still called "Travel Card"):

In fact, it has a lot of similarities with other credit cards from other banks. Mainly that you can use it to pay for all kinds of stuff. What makes it a bit unique is the fact that bunq does not give you any credit line, so you're always just using your own money. But that also means you will never have to pay any interest, because there's no money loaned to you by the bank.

Oh and ''With Easy Bank you're limited to 1 card'' do you mean 1 MasterCard and 1 Maestro card or 1 Maestro and 1 MasterCard.

It's probably a good idea for you to check out the plans in detail by yourself, so you really know what you're getting into. You have probably already seen the overview page at bunq.com/benefits, but there's actually another PDF document linked at the bottom, the full Pricing Sheet. Don't be afraid, it's not particularly pretty, but it has all the information.

But just to make it clear: there are three different plans that each have their own monthly price. The number of physical cards that is included in the monthly plan price is:

          • 1 (one) for Easy Bank
          • 3 (three) for Easy Money and Easy Green

You can decide what kind of cards you want by yourself. Let's say you use the Easy Money plan, you could for example get either of these combinations:

          • 3 Mastercards
          • 2 Maestro cards + 1 Mastercard
          • 3 Maestro cards

With Easy Bank, only a single card is included in the cost of the monthly plan. So if you're using Easy Bank and you already ordered a Maestro card, the next card you order (whether that be a Mastercard or Maestro doesn't matter) would cost you extra money on top of your monthly plan. The pricing for additional physical cards is 3,49 Euros/month + production fees. That actually more than the monthly cost for the Easy Bank plan.

That's why, if you want to use 2 or more cards at bunq, it's probably a good idea to upgrade to the Easy Money plan. Because then you not only get 3 physical cards included, but you can also use up to 5 virtual cards (which are also Mastercards). These are quite handy, especially if you like to budget with multiple sub-accounts (which you can create up to 25 of when you're on Easy Money).

And can you add both cards (Maestro and MasterCard) to google/ apple pay?

All bunq cards are compatible with Google Pay and Apple Pay. It doesn't matter what plan you use or what type of card you use. Even virtual cards can be used with these mobile payment options.

@Jakob-Y#227636 thx again. The MasterCard accts as a debit card, right?

@New-Golden-Bobcat-2833220574#227715 The MasterCard accts as a debit card, right?

For you as the user it works indeed like debit cards work at most other banks. The card itself though is a regular credit card (see also in the picture above), so for a merchant it works like a credit card. You're basically getting the best out of both worlds.
