Hey bunqers 🌈
Did you know that you can make offline PIN payments with your bunq card? Yes, indeed - even if the terminal where you're paying is offline (for example on an airplane), you can still make a payment.
Things to keep in mind
- You can spend up to €250 per day when offline.
- This feature currently works with the Credit Card or Debit Card (Mastercard).
- Since the payments will be offline, you won't receive an event in the app immediately, as only your card knows that the payment has been made. This information will come through later when the terminal goes online.
- No need to order a new card in order to activate offline PIN - all applicable bunq cards support it automatically 🙌
How do I activate offline PIN on my cards?
To enable offline PIN, all you need to do is make a contact payment, i.e., insert your card into a terminal that's online 👍
Does an offline terminal support my secondary PIN?
No, secondary PIN will not work with offline terminals, as the PIN validation will only take place on the card itself.
What happens if the daily limit is met when the offline payment is being processed?
If you've hit your daily limit, and make an offline payment, the offline payment will go through successfully. Only when we receive information about the payment will it contribute to the daily limit.
What happens if I make an offline payment for a larger amount than my balance?
If the offline payment exceeds the amount of your balance, your account will go into debt. For example, if you have 30€ in your account and make an offline payment for 50€, your account will be 20€ in debt. You can resolve that via the negative balance process here ⭐️
