  • Maestro in Google Pay?

Can you please provide guidance on adding Maestro cards to GPay? I tried in the past, but was told that it's not possible (there is no card number, only IBAN, which GPay doesn't seem to support). Otherwise now there are no options for mobile Maestro payment, which is a huge disappointment as this is often the only accepted payment method in the Netherlands.

I hate that bunq is making this required. The feature in the app was awesome. Can you even add multiple cards to Google pay?

@vitaly the option is not there. I have a joint sub account I need this for

@Balaque#242121 In that case, you can add the card directly from Google Pay, by manually entering your card details.

You can find your card πŸ’³ number if you go to Card -> Card Details

That's the problem: maestro card numbers are an IBAN, not a typical card number. GPay doesn't accept non-numeric characters when adding a card.

@Balaque#242128 Are you sure? In the app my Maestro Card has a number which is not an IBAN!

Solved the problem - card is connected to the other user in our joint account. Thought I could use the physical card but had to copy manually from their bunq app.

Note to the devs: i think it makes sense to have all members of a shared account access to view cards tied to it. Pointless to pay for a separate physical card to the same account.

@Nynke-Turquoise-Zebra#242119 Can you even add multiple cards to Google pay?

Sure, you can add multiple cards to Google Pay and switch between them. It's also compatible with both Maestro and Mastercard, so you can for example use your Maestro cards at Dutch shops and your Mastercards for online shopping or when visiting other countries. Before paying, just swipe to the card you want to use in the Google Pay app.

@Jakob thanks for the information. I don't like it though, because if I want to switch I still need to switch the creditcard to the right account in the bunq app and then go to the Google pay. I like it better when it was in one and the same app.

@Nynke-Turquoise-Zebra#242138 Right, it's also a possibility to change the connected sub-account in the bunq app. But then card switching is not necessary anymore, so you can just set the card you're using as default card and then you also don't have to use more than a single app.

@vitaly the reply function isn't working properly and tagged you instead of the bunq rep above - sorry

@jakob but then I need to add another debit card in the Google pay app right?

I just have a credit and debit and switch between the subaccounts I (and my partner) use. I have more than one subaccounts I like to switch with the tap&pay.

If there is a way to do all of that with one app without ordering more actual physical cards, please tell me.

@Nynke-Turquoise-Zebra#242150 but then I need to add another debit card in the Google pay app right?

Would there be an issue with using the card you already have? When you set the card as default then you don't need to go into the Google Pay app to choose the card anymore for payment, it'll just be your default card when paying. And switching the connected sub-account can be done through the bunq app. If you put the card directly on your Home tab, you can reach the menu with a single tap.

Thanks for the reaction Jakob but yeah, this still means more clicks than we have now. I daily switch between a few accounts with tap&pay and therefore does not feel like an improvement.
