Bunq account & Dutch Tax Office question

Hey everyone!

Back on January 2022, I moved permanently to Sweden, after being living in The Netherlands for 2 years. Back then, I decided to close my ING Bank account since I was paying a fee for it but I was not using it. It was a big mistake, because now I need to get some money back from the Dutch Tax Office.

I’ve tried to register my Sweden bank account with them but they just won’t take it. I’ve sent the requested documentation several times by ordinary mail and they won’t accept my new bank account.

That’s why I decided to create a Bunq account, thinking that it would be easier to register it in the Dutch Tax Office. I tried to do it but I just got a letter from them saying that this account does not belong to anyone with my BSN number.

My question is; is there anyway to register my BSN here so when the Dutch Tax Office requests the information of my account, it will match their records?

I would advise for you to reach out to the support team and sharing an official document stating your BSN. They can then link it to your bunq account, and this allows the Dutch Tax office to recognise your account (may take a few days).

Je bunq-rekening is mss nog te nieuw? Ik zie mijn rekeningen bij bunq netjes bij de vooringevulde gegevens van de belastingaangifte staan, dus als het goed is heeft bunq je BSN?

Philippe Heb je je rekening geregistreerd met een Nederlands adres? Mogelijk ligt daar de koppeling met je BSN?

Philippe The thing is that I don’t live in The Netherlands anymore, since I moved permanently to Sweden, so I don’t have an address in the Netherlands. But I do still have a BSN, since that is assigned to me forever. I just want to use the BSN here so the Dutch Tax Office can identify me, but I still want to have my Swedish address.

Jose Juan Probeer eens een Nederlands adres (je oude NL-adres of je ouders in NL?) in te voeren en kijk eens of je dan je BSN in kunt vullen? Ik denk dat het daaraan ligt, omdat er van iemand met een Zweeds adres geen BSN verwacht wordt.
Nadat je je BSN in hebt gevuld kun je je adres weer naar je huidige Zweedse adres wijzigen.
Dat adres is overigens bijna nooit van belang, anders dan voor belastingzaken en voor het toesturen van een (nieuwe) bankkaart. Dus zolang dat niet aan de orde is, kun je een NL-adres invoeren, lijkt me.

Hi there 👋,
I am not sure changing to a Dutch address where you are actually not officially resident will work ☹️

If I am not mistaken, the change will trigger the identification process and if you are not officially resident it will be quite difficult to provide the needed documents to validate your identity as Dutch 🇳🇱resident.

My advise would be to check first with bunq support, they might be able to add to your existing account with Swedish 🇸🇪 residence your Dutch BSN number.

As alternative, did you check if you can provide the Belastingdienst the Dutch IBAN of one of your family members? Might not work as the tax office might require the same name on the bank account and same BSN number ☹️

Jose Juan In that case you still have your BSN, have you connected your Bunq account via mijn.belastingdienst or mijn.overheid?

David I did. And I got a letter from Belastingdienst saying that this account is not associated to my BSN number so they couldn’t verify that it is in fact mine.

Jose Juan Seems to me like something is out of sync. Id give the credentials of a family member or trusted friend and make up an agreement signed by both parties for the money to be deposited to you

Nicolae Ionita Follow the advice given above: Contact bunq through the Private Support chat manually and tell them your new BSN. You can get to it in the app by following these steps:

Go to Profile
Tap on Settings in the right corner on top
Scroll to the bottom, tap on Need help? Get Support, then choose Personal Support

After you have opened your ticket, it can take a bit until an employee works on your case and answers you. But you can do something else in the meantime, because you will automatically get notified via push notification whenever there's an answer. Just make sure to not close your ticket before your case has been solved :)
