Apple Pay with no internet connection - bunq cards 💳 work ✅

Hi there 🙌,
not sure if it ever happened to you to get out with no wallet and only you have is your iPhone or your Apple Watch.

I tested yesterday, both using the Apple Watch with no iPhone on near by and with the iPhone on Airplane mode (no internet connection).
I managed to pay at the shop terminal with no issues using Apple Pay ✅

Clearly, you do not get notifications as either your Apple Watch or your iPhone are not on line... but once you are back on line, notification will flow and of course you can see the transactions in your bunq App.

You need to have the bunq cards added to Apple Pay on your iPhone or/and your Apple Watch in advance.. as to add cards to Apple Pay on your devices you need to be on line. This is the article for adding Apple Pay

It is cool and well, it works also with bunq's cards 💳 (Maestro and Master Card).
I thought was a nice info to share with all bunqers 🌈

GG By the way: this is not something unique to bunq. Apple Pay as a technology does not rely on an internet connection (and fundamentally works different to Google Pay, for example). If you have your bank's credit or debit card stored inside the Wallet app on an iPhone, then it's a standalone card and when you pay for something, no data connection has to be made to Apple or your bank's servers. The same is also true for the Apple Watch. All payment tokens are completely generated on-device.

With Google Pay, it works a little bit differently. Your card won't actually be stored on your device, but instead on Google's servers. Your phone then only retrieves payment tokens (10? I think) whenever it has a network connection and uses these for making payments. So even when you use Google Pay, you don't have to be afraid of a spotty connection when entering e.g. a restaurant with thick walls, but in cases where you have no connection for prolonged periods of times and you want to make a lot of payments, then you're out of luck with Google Pay. However, with Apple Pay it won't be a problem and it'll keep working.
