  • Contactless payment disappeared

Hi,

It seems the option to pay with NFC was silently removed/disappeared? The button "pay" is simply not there anymore. What's going on?

@Nico-Green-Butterfly#247778 The Tap&Pay feature is no longer available. Now you have to use Google Pay or Apple Pay in order to pay with your phone.

@Nico-Green-Butterfly#247778 Tap&Pay on Android was deprecated by bunq at the start of 2021 after Google Pay was introduced in The Netherlands. Now, you can simply use Google Pay instead. It's compatible with both Mastercard and Maestro cards, and it works both in shops exactly as Tap&Pay used to, and also online.

@Jakob-Y#247780 Why is the option only disappeared now if it was added to google's growing empire last year?

@Nico-Green-Butterfly#247783 Because you could use the feature as long as you were logged in on the same device. As soon as you login on a new device or log out and in on the same device, Tap&Pay was disabled.

Btw, it was not only added to "Google's growing empire" but also to Apple's. It's easier for bunq to rely on existing payment systems that are built in in the OS itself then develop and maintain such a feature themselves.

@thijsoost#247784 Thanks for replying! And hurrah for monopolies I guess

@Nico-Green-Butterfly#247783 As mentioned above, Tap&Pay was deprecated at the start of 2021 in order to have a period of time for users to transition to Google Pay. New users were presented with Google Pay as a primary option and announcements were made via e-mail and on the community forum. Then, at the start of this year, the option to set up Tap&Pay on new devices was removed. Finally, after a few months, the Tap&Pay feature was completely removed with an app update. Basically the idea was to make the transition as smooth as possible and to not overwhelm support systems.

Lol then in netherlands you cant even download Google pay smh get the but button back i am not paying doe this if i cant even uwe it properly

Many people dont even want Google pay should this bank then do it?? I say no you cant do anything's but yeah their is only 1 way to hurt this bank if they are not listening that's why they be doing this

@taggy#247793 I live in the Netherlands and was able to install the Google Pay app without any issues here. By the way, you don't have to install the Google Pay app in order to use it. Google Pay is built in in Android. You can also access it via Settings > Google > Settings for Google apps > Google Pay.

@thijsoost#247798 Then they just fixed it I couldnt download it for months smh
