  • Amazon - invalid number

Tried to purchase something on Amazon. After entering my Bunq card number, Amazon says the number is invalid. All of my other debit cards work on Amazon. Is this yet another bug?

    @Jenksie#249301 Are you trying to use a Maestro card or Mastercard?

      @thijsoost#249303 Hi Thijs. Maestro. Amazon says they accept such cards.

        @Jenksie#249304 As far as I know, Maestro cards can't be used for online payments. I've never been able to use my Maestro card for an online payment. So my advice is to use a Mastercard, because Amazon certainly supports those.

          @thijsoost#249305 Hmm. OK, thanks for clarifying this. I thought I was issued a faulty card.

            @Jenksie#249307 Hey 👋
            I would recommend to use a Mastercard just like Thijs said. In my opinion a Digicard would be best practice. If there will be ever a data leak at Amazon or something else, you can easily block the card and you don’t have to block one of your physical cards.

              @pqckmqn#249319 Good tip!

                @pqckmqn#249319 Great suggestion. Thanks Markus. I'll do that next time. I just hope that they fix the phone number verification bug soon. :(...

                  @Jenksie#249301 I looked on Dutch and German Amazon local help websites, but nowhere does it mention that Maestro cards are accepted. While Thijs is correct that often Maestro cards aren't meant for online payments, the bunq Maestro cards actually do work online at the few number of sites that accept Maestro online payments. It's a rare sight to behold, however. And Amazon does explicitly not accept them.

                  But just to give a real-life counter-example: DLGamer does accept Maestro payments.
