Hey bunqers 🌈
You or someone just sent a transfer to your closed bunq account? Don’t worry - your funds aren’t lost! Learn what happens and what can you do in such a case below:
How does it work?
Whenever you send funds to an inactive Bank Account in bunq, our system won’t accept the transfer and instead, the transfer will be sent back to the sender’s bank account. Once reversed, the funds can be sent to another active account 🙌
When will my funds bounce back?
It’s possible that the reversal may take 1-2 business days for SEPA transfers and up to 7 business days for SWIFT. Learn more about the estimated payment arrival time here 🔎
My transfer didn’t come back, what’s next?
In such case, make sure to contact the bank from which you sent the transfer and ask for a further investigation and reversal of the transfer in question. Sometimes the funds might get stuck while bouncing back due to technical error on the cooperating bank’s side.
I sent a payment to a bunq Bank Account when it was closed, but now I reactivated it. Will the funds still arrive?
The answer here in most cases is no. When you make the transfer and it gets processed by the cooperating bank, our system automatically declines the payment at the moment of processing.
This means that even if the Bank Account is reactivated right after the transfer, the possibility of receiving the funds is little to none.
