  • Are there metal debit cards?

The metal cards seem pretty cool, but I was wondering: are there debit/maestro versions, or just credit/mastercard? Debit cards are more widely supported here in the Netherlands :)

    @juliavdkris#255958 There is no Maestro Metal card. Next year there will also be no new Maestro cards at all anymore in Europe. What exactly that‘ll mean for card acceptance in The Netherlands is not 100% clear, but probably you won‘t have to worry about it anymore soon.

      @juliavdkris#255958 Hoi Julia! Helaas is de Metal card alleen verkrijgbaar in een Mastercard variant. Het scheelt dat vanaf volgend jaar Maestropassen in heel Europa langzaam uitgefaseerd worden en in 2027 ondersteuning helemaal stopt. De acceptatie van Mastercards zal ook in Nederland toenemen vanaf volgend jaar!

        @thijsoost#255962 Ah thanks! What's the reason for stepping away from debit cards though? It's nice that at least mastercard acceptance will increase, but that probably takes a while to fully take effect. Of course some places do accept it, but I know my nearby supermarket for example doesn't

          @juliavdkris#255963 De bunq Mastercards werken ook als debit cards, in de zin van dat het geld direct van je rekening wordt geschreven i.p.v. aan het einde van de maand!

          Maestro passen zijn ook van het bedrijf Mastercard, en Mastercard stopt vanaf volgend jaar met deze passen omdat alleen Nederland en België deze passen nog gebruiken. De rest van de wereld gebruikt Mastercards, waardoor het logischer is om ook in Nederland en België te stoppen met Maestro passen.

              @juliavdkris#255965 Het is inderdaad niet bunq die ermee stopt, maar het bedrijf die de passen maakt zelf!

                Bleibt zu hoffen, dass der Plan von Mastercard gelingt und dass die Mastercard Akzeptanz steigt . Meine Sorge ist, dass nationale Insellösungen wie die deutsche Girocard dadurch Aufwind bekommen.
