I found Maestro is going away and we’re all getting Debit Mastercards in the Netherlands.

I wonder, are the existing Bunq Travel and Metal credit cards equivalent to the new Debit Mastercard, in terms of acceptance? Such as Albert Heijn, who currently do not accept credit cards. Presimably they will accept the Debit Mastercard. Will they also accept the Bunq Metal/Travel cards?

Sven Berechtigte Frage, aber da die bestehenden Maestro noch bis zum Laufzeitende gültig bleiben, liegt die Antwort in der Zukunft. Damit sind wir im Bereich der Spekulation.

Sven Usually there is no difference in the acceptance of Masteecard Credit or Debit. Both are Mastercards and the only difference is how they are handled in the backend, so the payment terminals can’t even really tell a difference. Most probable outcome of the disappearance of V-Pay and Maestro will only be a very broad acceptance of Creditcards in the Netherlands.
