  • Using tap&pay without Google

Hi,

Some time ago, I think Bunq supported tap&pay on Android directly from the app. However, now it looks like only Google Wallet is supported.

Are there plans to add native support again? I'd rather not have all my payments go through Google's servers.

Cheers

@Cas#262175 Unfortunately, Apple Pay and Google Pay are the only ways to pay using your phone at bunq. Bunq stopped supporting Tap & Pay as soon as Google and Apple Pay were working. From a privacy perspective it would be nice if bunq had their own mobile paying system, but from their perspective, it's easier and cheaper to just use the systems provided within operating systems, since they're already there.

Apple Pay is also designed to protect your personal information. Apple doesn’t store or have access to the original credit, debit, or prepaid card numbers that you use with Apple Pay. And when you use Apple Pay with credit, debit, or prepaid cards, Apple doesn't retain any transaction information that can be tied back to you—your transactions stay between you, the merchant or developer, and your bank or card issuer.

While Google uses their servers to simulate the chip of your cards (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Host_card_emulation), with Apple Pay the card information is fully stored in the Secure Element chip and payments are between your device and the payment terminal, not via Apple servers.
