I recently started using a Chromebook.
Most Android apps can be installed on chrome os using the app store.
But not the bunq app.
Is there a reason for this?
Menno-Golden-Kiwi the device requirements as specified by bunq can be found here. bunq is mobile-only, so this might be why you can't install the app. 🙂
Menno-Golden-Kiwi Tip: Thanks to Linux App Support on some Chromebooks you can install the open source bunq Desktop application :)
Is it the lack of a camera then?
Or just because it is not a mobile phone?
The Chromebook runs android 7.1.1.
Menno-Golden-Kiwi “Android: 4.1+ front & rear facing cameras“
Does ChromeBook have a rear facing camera?
It has none😶
You can not unlock using face recognition or do a scan.
Personally it don't think that is a reason not to support Bunq on it.
I agree with that. Maybe bunq should allow the app to be installed on more devices and just show a hint when starting without a camera, that you will miss out on some features. I would gladly use the app on my Chromebook, too! :)
I also would like to use Bunq on my Chromebook please.
Unable to do a scan or face/hand recognition can still be achieved by doing some action on your phone.
Doesn't happen that often for it to be annoyed.
Just saying cause I'm paying :o)
Open source bunq desktop app?
I don't know that app.
Menno-Golden-Kiwi https://bunqDesk.top is the link :) you need the .deb file. Move it to the Linux Files and double click on it to install it :)
Menno-Golden-Kiwi Here the direct link to the .deb file working with Chromebooks: https://github.com/bunqCommunity/bunqDesktop/releases/download/0.9.5/bunqDesktop-0.9.5-amd64.deb
I am a no-no I terms of it knowledge.
But using a third party application to manage my bank account makes me nervous thinking about Security.
Menno-Golden-Kiwi It would be cool if you can use the reply button next to my message, so I get a notification when you answer me :)
Here you can read more about the security:
It's using the official bunq API, one of the amazing features of bunq!
What Chromebook do you have? One with Linux Support?
johannes Sorry :-) Forgot the.reply again
Acer Spin 13.
And I run Linux on it.
For Gimp and some other apps
Menno-Golden-Kiwi Perfect :) I also have the Acer 13, with bunq Desktop.. it runs really great! :)
johannes I will have look at it tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip.
Menno-Golden-Kiwi No problem, have a good night :p
