• Facebook Tracking Pixels

Hi bunq!

Kevin

    Hey Kevin,

Just to reiterate in English: you’re asking why bunq, who values privacy very much, is using Facebook Pixels on it’s website properties.

TLDR; we only use the Facebook Pixel to track who visited bunq properties, we don’t send any details on who you are or what you did. For us it’s only a confirmation of interest, either to measure that you liked our content (or ad), or to prevent us from spamming you about stuff you’ve already seen before.

We currently use Facebook as a way to communicate with our fans, bunq users and potential bunq users. To tailor our content and ads we use Facebook’s tracking options to reach the right people and to prevent spamming everybody. We never send any user or visitor details to Facebook beyond ‘a someone visited one of our pages’. We only use the Facebook Pixels on our sites and none of the bunq sites have user sessions or data. In no way does Facebook have any access to your transactions or user data from the bunq side.

Absolute valid question and one I think would be very good to discuss and get bunqers’ honest feedback on (so let us know your opinions!).

Facebook is a bad company privacy wise, you shouldn’t use their services as a privacy minded bank. Just like bunq doesn’t invest in shady companies, they shouldn’t ‘invest’ in Facebook.

But hey! Just an opinion. :)

Agreed. Don't use Facebook and/or tracking pixels

Are you saying you only send data that is useful to bunq to facebook? But what about Facebook? Which data does facebook track and what information do they accumulate over time from bunq users? Can you be certain that that information is not sold by facebook or misused by other companies? ☺ I bet you can’t be 100% certain, since you can’t trust facebook does what it says. What about the offline tracking 🤔..? Do you know how it works?

Please stop using the pixels. Or give visitors the option to disable it like the cookie message. I’m a software developer, it shouldn’t be that hard to implement “facebook tracken yes / no”

There is always the option for each individual not to use Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Microsoft or any other free service and let the trackingpixels register anonymous users.

              Hey their 👋,

I am not a big fan of Facebook and never was, actually they are truly the opposite of a privacy friendly company. Thats why I would recommend https://matomo.org. Matomo is a self hosted google analytics replacement. And because its self hosted bunq has the full control over the data and can of course set their own rules on data anonymization.

I wish you all a great day,

              Timo

For those interested, there are plugins like Ghostery (https://www.ghostery.com/) dat disable all (/most) tracking tools and other crap that many websites use. 😁

Well, we can discuss this extensively but in my opinion bunq should not use Facebook Pixels, period. So dear bunq, find another solution because this one is not giving me a good feeling.

Who says that even anonymous users aren’t being tracked? Ghost profiling is a thing, used by both Facebook and Google.

I do recommend people that have an issue with tracking pixels to use Firefox with addons that block these pixels.

I love Ghostery :)..... (and for the more advanced user: https://pi-hole.net/ )

You can track people using many different methods, don't need to use a Facebook pixel.

The best way for people to be safe if they are uncomfortable with these trackers (that we really do need), is to install plugins that block them...

I was about to comment this when I noticed your reply.

If users are worried about these trackers than there are tons of plugins and systems to prevent them and I assume most people who are replying here already use those anyway

It isn't just about tracking, I assume bunq uses Facebook ads which means their tracking pixels are the best/most reliable way to see how effective the ads are.

Not sure what kind of information Facebook is receiving, but isn’t this all a bit exaggerated? bunq is saying “we don’t send any details on who you are or what you did” so I don’t see the problem here

Cause that’s what bunq is tracking. But facebook tracks other things as well. Even shadow profiles and offline tracking.

Besides... facebook knows which bank I am using now, thanks to that pixel. So Bunq told Facebook which bank I use indirectly and Facebook will sell this information or let it be used by others to target me or make a profile about me in the future. And even if I trust Bunq or Facebook (which I don’t anymore), I wouldn’t trust any other third party with my information.
