• Routing number (transferwise / bunq)

I try to send USD from my EUR account in NL to Suriname. In Suriname the SWIFT code is needed to route to the bank. However when I use transferwise through my BUNQ account I can only enter the routing Nr. This needs to be a number there the SWIFT is letters. So seems I can't wire the funds this way.

Using my transferwise account I can enter the SWIFT code and the routing is nowhere mentioned. So what's the part I'm overlooking?

    You canโ€™t. You can only send USD to the USA. Only supported countries work with transferwise. Bunq does not offer SWIFT. Transferwise is third party service partnered with bunq.

      Interesting, certainly as the countries are all shown in the app when you like to create the transfer. And for transferwise Suriname is a supported country. Nevertheless, back to Transferwise directly then.

        @Gerrit-Green-Leopard#42453 that's indeed a bit strange, because you can select Suriname after selecting the currency USD ๐Ÿค”

          @Gerrit-Green-Leopard#42453 My mistake forget what I wrote. You are right I think it should be possible then. I did not see your country in the list first.

          Maybe you should try and contact support through privat matters.

            How do I send money to a USD account in Cambodia?

              @Jeroen-Cyan-Quokka-2406382992#42577
              - Click on "Pay".
              - Click on the Euro sign and change it to "United States Dollar".
              - Fill the amount and click Next.
              - "New Recipient".
              - Select "Cambodia" as country.

              But i think the Cambodian bank does not have a routing number, because SWIFT is used?

                That is the point where I get stuck. I need to send money to a USD account with ABA Bank, Siwm Reap. There is no routing number for ABA Bank in Cambodia. But Cambodia is listed as designation (local currency Riel obviously not). So how do I send money to Cambodia? I have read the Suriname example where it is suggested USD can only be sent to the U.S. But then it would not make sense to list Cambodia as possible designation.

                  @Jeroen-Cyan-Quokka-2406382992#42665
                  Transferwise should work if you read their website, although I believe may need to use their website directly instead of via bunq. Also be aware there will be an extra charge for a SWIFT payment.
                  I have successfully used Xendpay to send money to Cambodia in USD a couple of times. There the SWIFT option is the default.

                    Thanks Edwin. Bunq should either remove it if it is not possible through Bunq or explain how to - because currently it is unclear why it is listed.

                      Hi guys!

                      Currently TransferWise in the bunq app only supports sending USD to US bank accounts. We are looking at expanding the options for currencies and destinations, and USD to other countries is definitely on that list.

                      The question of why the app asks you for a country if you can only send to US bank accounts is a fair one.

                      That's a requirement from the payment partner TransferWise has in the US. Their reasoning behind it is that you could have a US bank account, but be living somewhere else, and they want the address where you currently reside. I can see why that's confusing though.

                      We will continue to work on making more currencies and destinations available directly through bunq.

                      Cheers,
                      Tom

                        @Tom#42715 Super, thanks for your response!

                        At the TransferWise site you can select a "Bank account country". When this is not equal to the USA you get inputfields for the SWIFT-code (and $2 extra transfer fees ๐Ÿ˜‰)

                          @Bastiaan#42721 Yep, TransferWise calls this Global USD.

                          There are quite a few complexities that come along with sending USD to other countries, with some countries having different requirements for verification etc. We are looking to get that all worked out so we can support it in the bunq app.
