  • Is a Bunq mastercard (metal) really a creditcard?

So I was just wondering: is the metalcard or the other creditcard, a real creditcard? Or is it a debitcard? Because some car rental companies for example only accept ‘real’ creditcards no debit.

      @Arif-Green-Turtle#270001 The Metal Card is a creditcard. The only think that bunq changed, is that your balance is updated immediately after you bought something. The money isn't really deducted at that moment from your account, that happens at the end of the month.

      But the short answer is yes, the Metal card is a Mastercard credit.

            @Arif-Green-Turtle#270008 Bunq used to have a Mastercard debit. But you can't order that card anymore. Of course you could still have an old card.

            Currently bunq has three cards:

            • Maestro debit
            • Mastercard credit
            • Metal card (= Mastercard credit made of metal)

              • You can make hotel/car rental reservations
              • It has offline PIN, like very few Mastercards have
              • Worldwide acceptance (You can even choose the countries where it can be used)
              • Dual PIN, you can link even two subaccounts to one Mastercard
              • the amount you pay is directly debited from your account, so you have to have the money you pay on the linked account. There is no credit line, so you never go in debt. But in the background it is all processed monthly, so it’s a „real“ credit card.
              • High Limit, you can set easily in the app yourself, up to 50000€

                  Ability to pay at offline terminals, for example in airplanes, toll gates on highways with no internet connection, etc. There's a limit for these types of payments, though, as the payment terminal cannot check with the bank if the payment should be accepted or not directly.
