Hey bunqers 🌈
bunq recently adopted a mangrove tree at Hortus Botanicus in the heart of Amsterdam. It’s the exact same species the bunq community is planting in Kenya and Madagascar.
This tree represents the millions of trees planted by bunq users, proudly shaping a greener future.
What type of tree is it?
It’s Rhizophora mangle, commonly known as a red mangrove, and it’s the exact same species planted by bunq users in Kenya & Madagascar.
Why a mangrove tree?
Mangroves have the ability to store large amounts of carbon dioxide - up to four times as much carbon as other tropical forests. This makes them a really important player in the fight against climate change.
However, they’re under threat worldwide. It’s up to us to be proactive in protecting what’s left, and creating more. If you’d like to learn more about why mangroves are absolute wonder trees, check out this article.
Where’s the tree located?
You can find it in the tree climate greenhouse section of the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam.
🌳 Address:
Hortus Botanicus

How can I visit the tree?
The Hortus is open every day from 10am to 5pm.
