So, why was my Mastercard chargeback denied?
For a successful chargeback submission to Mastercard, there are specific conditions we should meet, according to Mastercardâs rules and regulations. If your request doesnât meet the requirements, we have to deny your request.
There are a few main reasons why your chargeback may be denied.
The payment is older than 120 days âł
When a transaction you want to chargeback was settled more than 120 days ago, youâre not eligible for a chargeback, therefore the request wonât be processed further.
Weâve already submitted or denied a chargeback for this payment đŹ
When a chargeback request is already processed, approved or denied, a following request for the same transaction canât be initiated/processed again.
Over 15 fraud-related chargeback requests per card đ
If you request over 15 transactions which appear to be fraudulent (not authorized) with the same card, following Mastercardâs regulations, weâre obligated to deny any more chargeback requests for this card.
You have a transaction history with the merchant đ€
When you request a chargeback for a payment with a merchant you have previous transactions with, according to Mastercardâs rules, youâre not eligible for a chargeback due to the fact that youâve accepted the Terms & Conditions of the merchant, therefore you must settle your dispute directly with the merchant.
The payment was authorized via 3DS đ or made via Apple/Google Pay đ±
When the transaction reported as unrecognized was authorized via 3D secure code or the payment was processed via Apple/Google Pay this means that youâve personally accepted the payment. Therefore youâre not eligible for a chargeback as per Mastercardâs regulations.
The payment was performed with a Maestro card
We are not able to process chargeback cases for Maestro card payments. The Consumer Protection from Mastercard is only applicable for payments performed with a Mastercard debit or credit card.
