How secure is it to use bunq desktop? What if someone hacks my computer or I have a virus on my pc is it possibly for someone to steal my data and information related to bunq to commit fraud? I am very cautious with those 3rd party apps and programs so please don’t mind my asking. And is there any risk that the software itself has some „spying components“?

Well, a big fat warning from bunq 🌈 if you want to use wildcard 🤔....

Anyone with access to your key will be able to fully control your bank account. And that will be at your own risk 🙁🤔😲

How secure is it to use bunq desktop?

As with all third-party applications; sharing your API key theoretically gives the party full access to your account when they do not have their security done properly. Say the third party doesn't protect their database well enough; it might get hacked and the hacker might gain access to all these API keys (and thus all the funds in the accounts). Now, this is mostly theoretical. But you should be aware of what it means to hand over your API key. As for the bunq Desktop project, it does not store your API key in the cloud. So it remains on your local computer. But it remains a risk in some way. In case you want to be 100% sure you can read through the source code (bunq Desktop is open source), but this requires some programming knowledge and hence is not a suitable solution for everyone. This, in my opinion, will always remain the pitfall of third party applications. bunq can't possibly review all of them to give them a 'seal of approval', neither do I think they should. 🙂

PS: you can use the bunq Desktop app also via OAuth, then you do not share your full API key, but the app gains read-only access basically. But this will of course limit the functionality of the app.

        Hi,

Thanks for this great attribution, however i'm having a few issues.

How is it possible to switch accounts ? I have one personal and 2 business accounts.

I'm getting an error message when i click on the title / version on the top left.

Fixed that bug in development already but thanks for reporting it :)

You can logout on the dashboard and then log in to a different account on the login page. As long as you logged-in with the same password you should be able to hit the key icon on the dashboard and switch accounts there.

Also, when logging in you can click "Switch keys" at the top right and go there to log-in using an existing API key as long as you use the same password.

Thanks for your quick reply. Works perfect thanks again!

Loving the app! It's a shame Bunq can't do this themselves, but I'm glad someone's filled in the gap. And it looks really good.

Is there any chance of RPM packages? I run RHEL (Red Hat) and DEB files won't work for me.

I also love this. Anyone ever thought of implementing multi banking using HBCI or FinTS? Although this might be coming with some hurdles.

Will look into this for the next release, should be as simple as adding the RPM package configuration to the builder.

Not sure if that is feasible with this project at this point let alone supporting the same amount of functionality for other banks

How do I enter the redirect URI using oAUTH?

What the problem is why I asked this is that I tried using the QR code and I couldn't login. Now the Bunq App won't provide a new key because I didn't use the older one. Can I force your app to use that key?

You can go to the settings > Security and settings > Developers > OAuth and set the redirect url there.

If you have an unassigned API key you can go to the same page but click the API Keys instead and remove the unassigned key from the list. OR if you want to use it simply view it and enter it on the login page.

Thanks. I could remove the key and log in also. Everything is great and thanks for providing this amazing application on Mac.

Can I create a request using bunqDesktop? I cannot find where to do that, I can only see the already (on mobile) created requests listed.

If you have a Github account you can request something here or just leave a comment here or message me on Telegram

I'm guessing he want to create a payment request like you can do in the normal bunq app.

You can go to the menu in the left (the three lines or hamburger) and then choose "request". There you can enter all the things you want or need.

Ah yes, I was on my phone and didn't read it right. I'm guessing is on an OAuth account which does not allow for sending requests. If that's the case the Request page won't be shown in the menu

I just found out about the "Savings goal" menu entry. I assumed that my Auto save account would show up there, but that isn't the case. I only see the options new, import and export. When I click on New it looks like I can define a new Savings Goal, but I already have one. When I click on import I don't know what I need to enter (a filename?).
Is this Work In Progress? I couldn't find an explanation how this should work.

Basically what happened is that I created that feature 1-2 weeks before the bunq update where bunq released the official savings goals. So now bunqDesktop has both :p

The savings goals page are separate from the bunq savings goals and are only something for bunqDesktop. The custom one has more options and lets you set a goal spread over multiple accounts for example. You can easily combine the custom and official one by creating a new custom savings goal and set the goal amount to the bunq savings account goal.

I thought about merging the two but since the custom system allows for a lot more functionality I decided to keep both. One thing I could do is automatically create a custom savings goal when a new savings monetary account is opened but I'm open to suggestions.

The export/import buttons are there to export and import the custom savings goals just like is possible with the category rules and other features within bunqDesktop.

Just a quick question, how safe is this? Right now the mobile app is enough for me but I would like Bunq on my desktop.
