• Direct debit from the wrong sub account

For some time now, when you have a direct debit request, the corresponding sub-account (IBAN) is not always correct. I always have to search for the correct sub-account for that payment. A bunq employee told me that most people like it that way because bunq selects the sub-account by similar payments. But when I give permission to any company to send me the direct debit, it is for that IBAN and not a different one.

Bunq's solution for "my problem" is to use automaticly payments for direct debits. But for me it was one of the features from bunq which I really liked that I can confirm/deny the direct debit (and also make sure enough money is on the sub-account). And now it is broken for me, costs me way more time to do my fincance....

My question to other bunq-users is, who uses direct debits and likes this "feature" of automaticly select an other sub-account than the one that was the original destination?

@Michael-Erkens#284769 I manually accept all my direct debits, so I can choose the sub-account every time.

@Michael-Erkens#284769 your post describes unexpected app/system behaviour.

If you share an iban “NL…01” with a vendor for the purpose of direct debit, you should receive it on that 01 account like you mentioned.

If incoming direct debits show a different sub-accounts than the original IBAN that was shared, I would classify that as unexpected and as a bug.

Unless bunq has changed their system rules recently,
Auto-select has nothing to do with direct debits. That applies to card payments, not direct debits.

With incoming direct debits one does have the opportunity to pay them with a different sub-account if you want for whatever reason (one-time redirect), but by default it should list the subaccount linked to the IBAN you shared with the vendor.

If one went through the trouble of entering a specific iban of- for example - a budget subaccount, it should be deducted from that account (read “come in at”).

Let me know if our expectations match and perhaps repeat/rephrase your question.

I also have this issue currently. The direct debit is shown in the right sub account but when tapping on it, it shows a different account. Interestingly, this behavior is different in the web app where it shows the right account.

I have opened a ticket and the agent also told me that this is some algorithm selecting a more fitting account. Which is kinda hilarious since the desired account is having enough money and the preselected account is having zero balance.

@BUNQ Please can you fix this behavior? Thank you.

@Jo-#296972 I was actually surprised this is considered feedback. I assumed this is a bug as i never had experienced this behavior the past 6 years. Im using 10 monetary accounts to manage my money and migrated some old NL-IBAN accounts to DE-IBAN accounts.
Then after a few days i got my first direct debit and I was suprised that when I was about to accept it, it pointed to an old, deprecated NL-IBAN account and not to the account i submitted to my internet provider. Its even more weird that the direct debit is shown in the list view of the right account but when you tap on it to accept the request, it shows a different account. And more weird, web.bunq.com shows the correct account in the accept view.

I opened a ticket with the bunq support and provided some details for 2 direct debits that showed that behavior.
            Ticket ID is 3283546.

I love that bunq offers a way to pay a direct debit from a different account which was requested by the external party but the desired account should be selected in the view where you accept the payment and not a different one. I dont consider this user friendly when you change this without any reason. If you change it, at least inform the user that bunq would recommend to withdraw the money from account X instead of Y because of Z reason.

Keep up the good work guys :)

A year after this topic, the problem still occurs using the Bunq app. I was able to select the right account after logging in my Bunq account using PC and browser.
