What’s an eSIM and how do I get one?
An eSIM is an electronic SIM card. The eSIM service is provided through our partner BetterRoaming with 24/7 support. You'll be directed to their website, where you can manage your eSIM needs—check your balance, view your active eSIM, top up, and more. You can now get one within a few taps. To do so, follow these steps:
iOS users
- Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
- Tap Get eSIM to be redirected to your phone’s settings to install your eSIM
Android users
- Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
- Tap Get eSIM
- Copy the Activation code
- Tap Open SIM Manager
- Paste the Activation code in your phone’s settings

How do I top up my eSIM?
Once your eSIM is installed, you will receive an SMS from BetterRoaming that includes a personal link. This link allows you to check your balance or top up your eSIM at any time. Additionally, you can access this personal link via the bunq app by following the steps below:
- Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
- Tap on “eSIM Active”
- Tap “View Balance or Top up”
- Choose where you want to purchase data from!
How can I get free worldwide data?
If you are a bunq Elite user, you can get up to 4x 2 GB of free worldwide data each year!
We provide you with an annual allowance of 8 GB of free global data, accessible through four separate vouchers of 2 GB each, which can be redeemed throughout the year. You also have the flexibility to activate all four vouchers simultaneously, thereby obtaining the entire 8GB data at once.
Once you activate a voucher, its start date is set to the day you arrive in the country you are traveling to. From that date, the voucher remains active for a maximum of 30 days, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity throughout your trip.
How can I claim my additional GB voucher?
- Go to the ✈️ Travel tab
- Tap on “eSIM Active”
- Tap “View Balance or Top up”
- Paste the voucher code under Voucher and tap Redeem
How do I deactivate my eSIM?
iOS users
- Go to your iPhone’s Settings
- Tap on “Mobile Service”
- Tap on the sSim you want to delete
- Scroll down and tap delete eSIM
Android users
- Go to your phone’s Settings
- Tap on “Connections”
- Go to “SIM manager”
- Select the eSIM you want to delete
- Tap “Remove”
