[BUG] pay.ideal does not open Bunq app

Hi,
I cannot pay payment requests from pay.ideal.nl on my mobile device because the Bunq app does not open the payment link, and I cannot access web.bunq.com because of a technical error in the submission of the verification video.

Case
I am trying to fulfill a payment request on my Android device with the latest version (v.15, but the issue also existed with v.14). The ING payment request takes me to pay.ideal.nl. It correctly shows my preferred Bunq account IBAN to pay from and a button "Complete payment".

Issue
The expected behavior when I press the "Complete payment" button is that it would take me to the Bunq app.
Instead, it opens ideal.bunq.com/transaction/... in the browser, which shows me a QR that I can scan with my app to complete the payment. Although a "Pay instantly on This Device"-button is shown, this takes me to web.bunq.com again in the browser. This is very inconvenient because I have to verify this device using Onfido video verification. Upon reviewing the footage a pop-up is shown over a solid white video screen saying "Something's gone wrong. Please try again.".

1. I verified that the Bunq app is associated as default app for ideal.bunq.com
In general, I have not tinkered with the settings. In Settings -> Apps-> Default Apps -> Opening Links, the Instant Apps toggle is turned on. In theOpening Links section, the Bunq app is listed. Here, 4 links are verified by default, among which ideal.bunq.com is toggled on. web.bunq.com is not in the list of supported links.

2. I verified that other links are opened with default apps.
I've also verified that Default Apps in general are functioning, e.g., strava.com does open in the strava App.

3. I verified that other Bunq URLs can be opened with the app
Additionally, when I go straight to ideal.bunq.com in the browser I am redirected to bunq.com/nl-nl/link/pay-ideal. ON this page a popup is shown saying "Continue to Bunq? This site want to open the bunq app". Having this pop-up on the web interface would have solve my problem.

4. Finn cannot do anything with the URL
I have tried throwing the ideal.bunq.com URL in Finn, but that does not do anything. Could be a feature.

Solutions

Fix that ideal.bunq.com actually opens in the App
add web.bunq.com to the link of supported default links, or
provide a "open in app" pop-up in the web interface.
Fix the video verification issue (I don't know that it is)
Within the QR functionality of the Bunq app, allow uploading screenshots (this is pretty genius. I don't know why nobody does this. The amount of times I have had to scan a QR thats on my phone's screen.....).

Current solution
Open the link on my laptop, at pay.ideal.nl scan the QR that takes me to tx.ideal.nl with the QR functionality within the Bunq App.

Maarten Thanks for the detailed report! Always makes it much easier to debug when you provide these kind of details. I took a look into this and it seems like the most likely cause of the issue is a mobile browser defaulting to "Desktop Site". If you have this browser setting turned on, the pay.ideal.nl site will open as though on desktop. Could you try turning this off and seeing if it helps?

Thank you for the response. As I reread the issue I realized several factors I did not describe:

'desktop site' is turned off, and pay.ideal.nl opens in browser as expected.
I cleared my cookies for the .bunq domains
After facing these issues, last week, some bunq web pages asked to be 'installed' as webAPK (bunq_ideal_issuer, bunq_web, and user_web_authentification). Since I was not asked to do this before, I thought this may be a recently introduced solution. Unfortunately, installing the web apps did not solve the issue.

I hope this helps, even though these settings cannot affect the default link opening behaviour.

Additionally, I found a solution that does work: As opposed to ideal.bunq URLs, links to qr.bunq.com DO open in the Bunq app. So while I am erroneously forwarded to the website when using a ideal.bunq.com URL, this page does show a QR code, which I can screenshot, open in Google Photos, analyze, and open the QR code link. It's a cumbersome work-around but at least it demonstrates that some .bunq domains are properly opened, and that at least ideal.bunq is malfunctioning consistently.
