  • [SUGGESTION] Turn off all non core banking features (or notifications of them)?

Hello,

I joined bunq years ago because I could choose what bunq would do with my money, as I don't want to be involved with big banks and their malpractices and "investment strategies". I just needed a bank account and be able to get/transfer money, that's it.

Now I have loved bunq for years because the app was simple, clear and no nonsense. It worked fast, open new accounts went fast etc. All the core banking features work well.

However, the last couple years I keep being annoyed by all these new non core banking things like planting trees, traveling, sharing locations, stocks, price tombolas (wtf?) and now lately these points to get x% off this and that fantastic price. It's like I'm walking in Vegas with screaming clowns pointing to me to buy this/buy that.

Is there a way to turn off all these features and to just have the core banking functionality? I would even pay extra for it if it means you can't get by... Or at least some way to turn off notifications off all these things?

Hey @Alexander-Blue-Akita-196407212 👋 Thank you for engaging with our vibrant community and sharing your feedback 🌈

To turn off the notifications for Trees and Travel, you can simply go to Profile, Click ⚙️ Settings in the top right corner, tap on Notifications and adjust as you wish.

Currently, it's not possible to turn off the notifications for Points. However, if you wish to opt out altogether, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to 👤 Profile
    2. Scroll down and tap on Rewards under your name
    3. Disable the toggle

I'm labeling the topic as a Suggestion so that other bunqers can voice their support. Once again, thanks for your feedback. Your input is invaluable for shaping our future updates 🚀

@Alexander-Blue-Akita-196407212#298546 Great suggestion! Personally I don't use Finn, Places, Trees, Stocks and Points. Fortunately, Points can be disabled to get rid of the notifications. But unfortunately, you cannot disable the other features (although they don't give you notifications).

As Maya hid my post because it was apparently a copy of this one, I'll post my 2 cents here. It touches on the same topic, but it's mainly about the lower tier "Prizes" to be gotten with points - which are just ads...

Somehow replacing the Wheel of Fortune with a points system has been paired with forcing users to get notifications that they have enough points to get 10% off at Tiqets or a 2GB eSim from BetterRoaming.

How did Bunq think it was a good idea to start pushing Ads from their "partners"?

I've contacted Support, these notifications cannot be turned off in Settings. Only by turning off all notifications can you avoid getting wonderful advertisements from completely unrelated companies from your banking app.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to stop getting points. As the higher tier prizes are very nice, like a metal card or a free month of Bunq.

But sneakily adding Ads into your app, that's some nasty stuff and I would count that as a dark pattern. And I didn't expect it from Bunq.

Yes, please make this Bunq Points optional! These Bunq points notifications are incredibly annoying. We run a business account, and we do not care about earning points—it’s completely irrelevant to us.

We never asked for this feature, we don’t want it, and yet we’re forced to see these notifications with no way to turn them off. It’s frustrating to have unnecessary clutter in our payment notifications, and it’s ridiculous that there’s no option to disable them.

For those who like it, great, but give the rest of us a choice! This should be configurable so we can disable it immediately.

bunq, listen to your users and fix this!

                    Hi Maya,

I just got another ad from you guys, this time for Trip.com.

Could you inform us of when these will disappear?

                    Thanks.

Hey Justin 👋 Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

Currently it's not possible to turn off the notifications, but there's a workaround: You can opt out of the Points feature by toggling it off. To do so, you can simply go to Profile, and tap on Rewards to disable it.

I've passed the feedback on to our Product team. We're also actively monitoring the topic to see how many bunqers support the suggestion 🙌

Your input is highly valuable, as it helps us grow and improve. Rest assured that we'll keep you in the loop, and stay tuned for updates! Thanks for being part of our journey 🚀

Yes, it'd be really nice if we have more granular control over notifications (such as disabling points notifications) and get an ability to deactivate certain features (travel, stocks, etc.). I find it much harder to find important banking features than finding the current AAPL stock price - it should be reserved.

Received an ad for another company again:

                                • Christoph

I've seen other startups emphasizing on "in app time" when presenting to (potential) investors. Maybe bunq does this too.
