  • My card not accepted at a NS OV loading points!

Is there a way to change this in the settings or is this a general challenge?

    Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ @Elvedin-Grey-Starfish#49923

Unfortunately there could be several reasons why the transaction won't go through.

There are 2 things you could check yourself:

    • Did you try paying with the Mastercard? It is possible this card type is not accepted at that specific terminal. In The Netherlands the Maestro ๐Ÿ’ณ is the standard and is generally always accepted, unlike the Mastercard.
    • Is there a cancelled transaction in your overview? Tap it and see if there's a reason why it failed, if so, there should be a button beneath it to fix it right away.

If these 2 points didn't help out you could contact private support here, they can look into your account with you.

    Have a nice day! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ™‚

@Elvedin-Grey-Starfish#49923 I don't know as I don't use this. But I have a question. Did you already use your card in a terminal so you had to actually type in the pinnumber? With a new card you can't pay contactless unless you have made a succesfull transaction with a pinnumber.

        @ Tim thanks

@ Jeroen thanks, card is working at atm and in the store only when trying to pay at a terminal for NS OV chip than card is not recognized! Maybe itโ€™s NS terminal not accepting MasterCard, however thanks for feedback!

@Elvedin-Grey-Starfish#49988 Which is odd because it should accept Mastercard as well, according to their website: https://www.ns.nl/en/travel-information/facilities/sales-and-travel-information-at-the-station.html Note that you have to pay 50 cent extra if you pay with Mastercard (or Visa or American Express) and paying with Maestro is free.

Perhaps you could give them a ring on 0800-0540 when you're at the machine (because you need the machine number and so on) so they can check it out?

              @JeroenE#49994
0.50โ‚ฌ surcharge on Mastercard or VISA payments?
Has the EU Payment Services Directive 2 not yet been transposed into national law in the Netherlands?
Shouldnโ€˜t charging these surcharges for Mastercard and VISA (being four-party payment systems) have been outlawed by now?

@NiB#50125 I donโ€™t think it has. The PSD2 thing right? Privacy disaster, that one.

@NiB#50125 I'm not a laywer and find these texts needlessly complex and difficult to read. I found this regulation: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:32015L2366&from=EN where Article 60 says:

                  Article 60

Information on additional charges or reductions

                  1. Where, for the use of a given payment instrument, the payee requests a charge or offers a reduction, the payee shall inform the payer thereof prior to the initiation of the payment transaction.

                  2. Where, for the use of a given payment instrument, the payment service provider or another party involved in the transaction requests a charge, it shall inform the payment service user thereof prior to the initiation of the payment transaction.

                  3. The payer shall only be obliged to pay for the charges referred to in paragraphs 1 and 2 if their full amount was made known prior to the initiation of the payment transaction.
                    -----
So it seems odd to have an article specifying that you must state the costs of a given payment instrument (eg Mastercard) beforehand if it's not allowed to have an extra cost for a given payment instrument. Right?

@NiB#50125 No, the PSD2 is at the moment waiting for approval of the Eerste Kamer der Staten-Generaal (Dutch Senate).
