• Feature Request:Automatically unblock Debit Mastercard payment reservations

Most credit- and debit card companies automatically unblock payment reservations if the follow-up payment authorization is not given. I really like this option to be implemented like for example N26 does. It is a hassle to do it manually. I currently have 2 reservations which are a month old:( for a couple of hundredth euros

@Patrick-Azure-Quokka#52235 nice idea, but unlikely to appear at bunq, as that would mean bunq needs to be giving some form of credit to the user for the time the reservation is not being cleared from the mastercard systems or on the merchants end, this is for a bank like bunq high risk and might lead to fraudulent charges and/or misuse of their accounts. also this is not in line with the philosophy of bunq of doing only basic , no-risk, no-frills banking. So unfortunately I don't think you can do anything about this but wait. As a tip, try contacting the merchant and have them either give the follow-up authorization or ask them to cancel the charge/reservation from their end.

@johannes#52320 that's true, but I suspect that is less of an issue for bunq to deal with than arbitrarily giving people a cash advance for any type of mastercard hold or charge, that's solely reserved for credit cards I think.

@DaveFlash#52322 Well, if bunq wants to be a true serious bank they need to take some risk on them. This is something normal at mostly all banks/credit cards..
And because the bunq app doesn't show you a easy list of just reserved payments you also might forget sometimes that you need to release a payment manually..

And I don't think it's a risk to release a reservation after 3 weeks or so..

@johannes#52324 I agree with you partially, bunq needs to find a solution for this, but remember this is not something that's usually offered for Debit cards at all. It's only customary for CreditCards.

@DaveFlash#52325 They could try to give you a push notification or so after some weeks to remind you, the current way is just not perfect.
And also Debit Cards are doing that like N26.

Just asking out of curiosity because I never had this kind of problem. So if I make a booking for a rental car for example and the company blocks like 500 euros. Later on I decide to cancel the reservation. Normally the 500 euros would be freed again with other banks? And with bunq you have to do it manually? How exactly do you do it manually?

@Lexa-kom-Trikru#52328 If the car rental service would just not release it by themselves, then you would need to do that manually while other banks release it automatically after some time.

@johannes#52381 and „manually“ means I have to contact the support at private matters?

@Patrick-Azure-Quokka#52235 I‘m not quite sure if I correctly understand what you are trying to achieve with the request.
As far as I understood this, companies block/reserve a certain amount of money on your card when you try to use it with them, kind of a pre-authorization. And if you afterwards don’t make the purchase, this block is removed.
Is this not the case with bunq? I never had problems like that with bunq

Yes the same is the case with bunq. However, sometimes companies take a long time before they let bunq know that bunq can release the pre-authorization. Typically the advise is to contact support about it so they can see what they can do for you. 🙂
