• Recurring payment without cvc

Earlier I asked myself (and the support) how companies like Netflix and Adobe could demand money without a steady cvc code.

After I changed my payment details at Adobe, a automatic payment of 1 euro was withdrawn. I couldnt fill in a cvc, so they didn’t have one at all.

Support told me at that point that the first real payment I had to whitelist this company.

That first payment took place yesterday and there is no option to whitelist or either block or withdraw this payment. So I’m both happy and shocked about the fact that this company can demand money without my proper manual permission in the bunq app..

It is also says ‘pin-transaction’ as description. The description of the verifcation payment (€1) was called ‘online payment).

Anyone who can tell me more about this?

    @PIVO-Design#53301 Hi,

I don't know how Adobe is doing that, but I want to give you a general answer:
Basically no internet merchants saves your CVC code, for security reasons!
When they ask you for your credit card details with the CVC code they will instantly charge 1€ (or 0€) to check the card. For this they are using your CVC.
After that they will only save your credit card number and valid date to charge your card.
That's why it's not a problem to have rotating CVC on, you can still use it with Netflix, and more.

It’s not listed in ‘accepted payments’ or ‘planned payments’ either.

@PIVO-Design#53301 What the support was talking about was an old feature, this isn't in the app anymore. bunq is changing so much things over so less time that sadly the support sometimes doesn't know about all the new stuff .. and then you get answers like this

@johannes#53302 Thanks, support told me this also. But for this verifcation they didn’t had the cvc..

I justed hoped for this ‘whitelist’ option they promised me..

@PIVO-Design#53303 Summary: Just use your card online, let the rotating CVC activated and it will all work like it should :) you don't need to worry about that.

@PIVO-Design#53305 If a company like Adobe don't ask for the CVC they are taking all the risk. The whitelist feature from before was just a bit "much" - it was the reason for many support questions and problems. That's why it's gone

@johannes#53307 And why is this their risk? And not mine?

Thanks for your time, it’s appreciated

@PIVO-Design#53308 Because it's not up to you if a merchant asks for the CVC or not. It's up to the merchant.
It's a bit cheaper and easier to do that without a CVC code..

@johannes#53310 I’m only hoping that not everyone can demand money if they have my card no. And date.. like Adobe does now..

That is what I’m trying to say.

@PIVO-Design#53308 When someone uses your credit card info at a merchant who is not asking for any CVC code, you can just contact your credit card company that it wasn't you - and then the merchant needs to pay the money back. With a CVC code it's also easy this days, but not as easy :)

@PIVO-Design#53312 Well, if I would get your credit card number and date I could use it for example at Amazon as they do not ask for a CVC.
But for that you can set limits for both your bank accounts and your cards :) and if you see a payment you didn't do - contact bunq and you will get the money back.

@PIVO-Design#53312 But you have this with basically every credit card - that's also how you can pay per card on phone, they only ask you for the number and date.

@johannes#53314 Ah, ok. My brother had this problem last month. Weird transactions he didn’t do (Apple store i.e.). But the bank is first going to investigate this matter. He (and so am I) isn’t quite sure he Will get the money back.. (Not bunq but, Rabobank, but still..)

That’s why I want this answers so desperate.

@PIVO-Design#53317 The Apple Store asks for a CVC or do you mean in a store? I mean of course bunq will also investigate a bit, they won't give you the money back on the same day but you will get it back :)

But is there someone who knows how you can authorise, or just cancel/block someone who demands money? Attached an authorisation that is correct and just filled in by me.

But can I do something myself to decline this proces, if it wasn’t me? There isn’t an alternative for the previous white/blacklist?

You dont need the CVC to charge a credit-/debitcard. Its just a security feature, so the company that is charging can proof you are the correct owner, cause they can check the cvc code whether its correct or not. They dont need it, its just a possiblility, so they dont charge a creditcard you dont own. Look at Amazon, they also dont ask for any CVC code for charging.

@PIVO-Design#53460 When a payment was made but not authorised by you then you should contact Private Matters so they can reverse the fraudulent transaction.

Any merchant who knows your card number can make a payment on it at any time. Of course, they aren't allowed to do so without your permission but it's not something you can control.

For most Dutch banks the same is true for direct debits. So far I know only bunq who requires user permission to actually make the payment. At other Dutch banks the money will be deducted from your account and then you have to take action yourself to get it back.

@JeroenE#53476 Untill this point there haven’t been strange payments. But you guys just say that you only can take action afterwards and hope for the best?

@PIVO-Design#53487 Yes, this is how Mastercard works. It doesn't matter if it's from bunq or someone else.

If you don't have recurring payments on a card you can also deactivate the card (Switch or Replace -> Temporarily deactivate card). Then nobody can use it anymore (you included) until you reactivate the card. Or you can set the limit to 1 euro or something like that on that particular card..
