What do you guys think of a V Pay card?

I heard it is one of the most accepted cards in Europe....

    Je bedoelt een bunq V Pay / maestro kaart? Als dat zou kunnen, lijkt me dat mooi.

          I used to have a VPay card (Pay2d Visa), but don’t notice a difference compared to the debit MasterCard. Acceptance has been the same for me thus far. Except for the cost, the Visa was not cheap and had low limits.

            The v pay card is accepted where the meastro and MasterCard are also accepted, nearly every merchant in Holland has a Vpay sticker

              I think Maestro and MasterCard are enough to have a decent acceptance level in europe. The only thing that would make it more usable for me is "ELV" (Elektronisches Lastschriftverfahren) support. This is only used in germany (with "girocard") and basically means that your bank account is saved on the card and the merchant can initiate a direct debit with your card. But while it would make the card more usable in germany, i dont think it makes sense to support such a country-specific system.

                V-Pay is actually not supported outside of Europe. Visa debit and Visa electron are of course.

                A V-Pay product would therefor provide less acceptance than a maestro product.

                    What benefits do you hope to achieve with a v pay card? With maestro and MasterCard I have always been able to pay in pretty much any country I’ve been in, or do you have a different experience?

                      This is a really good idea. I have a visa card with Vpay and it is the only card that is accepted at home at Albert Heijn as well as in rural Africa. The problem this combination solves is that Maestro acceptance is crap outside EU and Mastercard or Visa acceptance is crap in Dutch stores, so you always need two cards.

                        I live in Holland but in a lot of country's they only accept either V-Pay, Visa and sometimes MasterCard but mostly V-Pay.... I'm guessing that, just like Maestro, it is free for businesses to let customers pay with the V-Pay card. For MasterCard you have to buy something like a "transfer price"(don't know the correct name of it)

                          That's true, but wouldn't it be better and simpler for bunq to just release a debit MasterCard with Maestro on it, as Visa has been doing with their credit and debit cards for some years now...??

                            That would be a start, but still I would prefer the visa combination over Mastercard because I have better experiences with visa acceptance in Asia and Africa.

                                      What Mark means is that MasterCard and Visa are accepted in more places than Maestro and V-Pay are. That may certainly be true, but I personally haven't seen a shop that does accept MasterCard but not Maestro.

                                      As for the Netherlands, where I live, Maestro is accepted almost everywhere (because that's the card issued by every Dutch bank) whereas MasterCard/Visa acceptance is not at all commonplace. It's the exception, not the rule, to be able to pay using a MasterCard or Visa. Although acceptance is growing, you do still need to have Maestro around here.
