Hello.. As you may know, there are several ways to pay in onlineshops.
But which of them is the best?
-Mastercard
-PayPal
-iDeal
-Sofort (by Klarna)
-On Account (you get an invoice and do a sepa transfer to the bank account of the company)
-Sepa direct debit
-Payment in advance with a sepa transfer
What is the best payment method?

@Arcardy#65818 You could also have asked: what is the best car?
It’s a matter of personal preference.

It really depends in what country you like to pay (in NL iDeal is always #1) but in rest of the world Creditcard is pretty normal.
Personal i do not like PayPal because their high fees, bad exports and risk that they ban your account.
@Roeshimi#65819 I want to purchase something at "Reichelt Elektronik" but they offer every payment method that exists (except iDeal).
And now I don't know what I should choose.

Only if you fully trust the merchant is iDeal #1. Otherwise, mastercard is much better and safer :P
To answer OP’s question: it depends... As a consumer, PayPal offers reasonable protection, as does MasterCard. iDeal offers none.
On account is also a reasonable option, as is direct debit - although DD I would avoid if you don’t expect to buy a lot from them.

@Arcardy#65821 As far as I know it’s illegal today to charge more money for one payment method over the other so that should not matter.
If „best“ means for you, fastest, with little interaction and having to enter card numbers etc., it’s probably iDeal, Sofort or Paypal

I would go for Mastercard (easy going, guaranteed payment and fast shipping).
Or Paypal as this is very usual for shops and payment in our country Germany. For you it is easy to claim if something will go wrong ... I had no problem so far.

I like to use Sofort at trustworthy online-shops. With the way bunq implements it it „leaks“ the least amount of data.
@LH-Black-Wolf#65822 Okay. I paid with Sofort. Afaik they have a buyer protection like PayPal too.
JakobProdigy
@Arcardy#65828 If I interpret their website right, they don't have additional buyer protection and don't hold money in escrow. Especially this sounds like that: https://www.klarna.com/sofort/kundenservice/fragen-zu-einer-durchgefuehrten-sofort-ueberweisung/kann-ich-die-mittels-sofort-durchgefuehrte-ueberweisung-widerrufen/ (in German)
After all, money goes directly from your account to the merchant's account.

What about this?
JakobProdigy
@Arcardy#65843 Looks good. I guess I looked at the wrong page then. Then that would put Sofort above iDeal when it comes to payer protection I guess.

I'd be looking for 1. transaction / settlement time and 2. buyer protection (PayPal buyer protection, Mastercard chargeback rights).
AFAIK that would pretty much rule out paying in advance, iDEAL and direct debit.

@Arcardy#65818 PayPal for free returns or MasterCard because you often get a nice logo in the app.

I used PayPal alot (when I didn't had Mastercards), but now I notice I use less PayPal, but do use more of the Mastercards, don't know why exactly. I do prefer using the creditcard over the debit Mastercards however, just because i'm lazy and I use that end of the month statement of my creditcard to book everything in YNAB at once.
AND to get money from friends/family I prefer bunq.me. Really easy to share links with the amount everyone has to pay.

I honestly think pretty much any big name is fine to use.
Ideal and MasterCard are very safe in NL, but I don’t think using them offer any benefits other than it being broadly known. Regarding PayPal: I once had a legal issue with something I purchased using PayPal and they played a mediator role, resolving the issue and refunding me. I don’t have any experience with sofort. I think sepa is a bit slower.
So one part from Reichelt Elektronik is broken :(
I bought it with Sofort. Can Reichelt Elektronik do a refund? Bunq doesn't submit the IBAN over Sofort.. Does a refund work?
SSanderProdigy
@Arcardy#66414 Bunq doesn't submit the IBAN over Sofort
As far as I know SOFORT will know your IBAN. But yes, you can best contact the company for a refund and when that doesn't work out you could talk to Support to check out the options. 🙂
