You can create a topic asking for an option not to get interest. I guess bunq found it trivial that nobody would object getting interest.

@Zaka-Flocka-Flame#67047 You can also see it as a “gift”

Maybe it would help if @Zaka-Flocka-Flame could explain why he is fundamentally opposed to receiving interest.

@Zr40#67382 Friend, the reason why I do not want to receive any interest, is because I’m Muslim and thus should stay away from receiving interest. The reason doesn’t affect reality, but kind of you to ask :)

@Zaka-Flocka-Flame#67394 I understand. From that pov, asking bunq to allow you to be exempt from interests should be possible. If anything they don’t have to pay it so more profits for them. But I could also understand if they won’t, religion is a choice as well of course - can’t cater to them all. But it’s a good suggestion.

@Zaka-Flocka-Flame#67394 Well, that's a clear enough reason for me :) I agree, it should not be forced for everyone.

@master#67388 It should be a free choice which investment option to enable. So bunq, please make the (new) options as default disabled. Not enabled all without my choice. I want to choose which investment I want to enable. That’s one of the reason I’m at bunq. “The bank of free”

@LH-Black-Wolf#67403 Of course. I really like bunq, so I hope this is gonna work out.

For me the (admittedly small) problem with receiving interest is administrative/bureaucratic.
If I receive interest I have to declare extra accounts on my tax returns in two countries. (The joys of being an expat!) This means filling out extra forms each year (One page for each account!) and possibly incurring more costs from the accountant.
If I earned hundreds of euros each year, then I'd be happy to do that, but if I can earn max 27, then I'd rather avoid the hassle/cost.

@master#67388 Yes but limited to 10.000,- and when you are member of a pack the you share this limit also. So bunq where is the ‘Mass’ part of the Masssinterest?

I cannot speak for others, but my main reason for not wanting interest is that I do not want my money to be used for investments that I think are unethical. My ethical views may be a bit more.. extreme than most, so a simple "green" option is not enough for me. I make my own investments and do not want "free money" from sources I cannot verify or trust.

Can we have a reply from a Bunq Official?

One of the best things of Islam is interest free banking, IMO. Banks cannot charge interest on loans, but you also don't get savings interest.

I think the world would have looked a bit better if we didn't always have more debt than money.

Can we have a reply from a Bunq Official?

I think it‘s a nice option for people who want it, but I would like to completely remove the option of receiving any interest.

Received this as an answer from a bunq employee.

What about us, the people who don't want ANY interest at all? I reckon many people will leave Bunq...

The thing is, why call yourself the bank of the free when the bank decides for the people to receive interest?!

It would be nice to give us the option to not receive interest indeed!
