• Is bunq becoming disloyal to the own convictions/principles?

Hi everyone!

I don’t really like the current tone in this discussion. I’ve just moderated a few comments. Please refrain from using language that we do not want to see here, respect eachothers opinion and try to discuss in a constructive way. People might not always agree with you. You are free to explain your opinion, but sometimes it can also be better to just let things rest.

Now, I don’t want to close/lock this topic because I think it’s an important topic, but I would like to ask you all to keep the posts relative, constructive and respectful. At the end of the day I think we all want bunq to improve even further than their current state. 🙂 Thanks! 🙏😁

    @Christoph-Green-Frog#68863 Opt out is want bunq did , everything checked by default and if you want you go an uncheck , opt in is everything unchecked and if you want you go and check what you want.
    Anyone working in IT knows that there is a huge difference between doing an option opt in or opt out,. Of course Bunq knows.
    But if your app/platform is not new but is already running for years and you are introducing an option that goes against your old basic principles then how you introduce the option it is even more important.
    Of course it makes absolutely no sense to make it opt out, what means , activate that option for all clients , including the old ones ( some of them are using the platform cause that thing was not possible ) but if you also even add that in the information email you don’t even say “ hey ! This option is activated , go and deactivate it if you don’t like it” and you only say “ there is this new option , check it” lot of people not interested in the option will just not check it cause they don’t want to activate it, but in fact they don’t know that option is already activated for them.

      Sjongejonge, wat kunnen mensen overdrijven zeg. Er is ook enorm veel vraag geweest naar een spaarfunctie, is iedereen dat soms vergeten? bunq is voor iedereen, dus niet alleen voor mensen die geen rente willen. Ja, het zou netjes zijn om dat uit te kunnen zetten, dat is voor die mensen die om religieuze redenen voor bunq hebben gekozen een stuk netter dan het gewoon opleggen zoals nu. Ik zat voorheen dan weer niet met geld bij bunq omdat er helemaal geen rente werd geboden. Het niet willen dat er iets met je geld gebeurt is naïef... banken zijn verplicht een maatschappelijke functie te vervullen en voorheen ging je geld ook gewoon naar de ECB. Wist je verder ook niet wat er precies mee gebeurde. Nu heb je in elk geval nog een soort van keus en is het nog niet goed... en vervalt men meteen in termen als ‘verloochenen van principes’ pffff... Het is nog steeds een start up die open staat voor input mensen, maar dat kan ook op een normale manier. bunq heeft meer dan eens laten zien dat ze daar wat mee doen, kom daar maar eens om bij de ABN-AMRO...

            @Mtouch#68904 For me the real big problem was activating all options by default for all users , even the old ones. That’s crazy. About making possible investing in war stuff, well, they sayed time ago that would not be possible at bunq so is also very important and they should explain it but if even they check that option by default for all clients... we can disagree about if in bunq should be possible investing in war stuff or not but I find very strange that some people agree with bunq about that activating that option for every client by default was the right thing to do.

              Dat Bunq nu ook een rentepercentage gaat uitkeren is helemaal prima, maar de automatische inschrijving zint mij niet. Wellicht is dat zelfs tegen de regels binnen de EU, maar dat zou ik eerst verder moeten uitzoeken. Mensen moeten een keuze krijgen in wat ze willen wat er met hun geld gebeurt, de huidige opt-out laat mensen niet de keuze, er wordt voor hun gekozen. Het had gewoon een opt-in moeten zijn, dan was er niks aan de hand.

              Ik vraag mij overigens ook af, als je besluit om gewoon al het geld bij het ECB te zetten, of je dan ook alsnog rente krijgt, dit zou dan misschien een optie moeten zijn. Het ECB werkt met een negatieve rente, dus eigenlijk zou je dan geen rente moeten krijgen, of je krijgt het uit eigen zak bij Bunq.... Daarnaast heb ik even gekeken naar de "Green Companies", maar ik vind het weinig transparant, heb niet heel lang gekeken, maar zodra je er goed naar moet zoeken kan je je afvragen hoe transparant dit werkelijk is.

                @Leonard-Purple-Puma#68917 I think you are saying it wrong , opt out is what bunq did , checking all options by default and people can check out of them , opt in it means all option are not checked and if you want you opt in , check them to activate them.

                    Wat goed dat ze geluisterd hebben naar onze wens om in groene bedrijven te beleggen! En wij krijgen de opbrengst, bunq verdient geen geld met geld! 👍 Het zou helemaal ideaal zijn als die 'staatsobligaties' uit te vinken zou zijn. Maar ja, een bank moet van de regelgeving hierin beleggen...

                      @johannes#68582 A lot of other banks don't pay you interest but their accounts are totally free. One of the justifications bunq used to have a monthly fee is that they didn't touch the money. Not to mention giving 0.27% in interest and callingb it the best in the world is a joke and factually a lie.

                            If anything it's headlines like this one that are out of control, not me calling them out on it. Then further down the email they say:

                            "Your interest rate is 9 times higher than any traditional bank!"

                              @Filipe-Pink-Cheetah#69044 Well seems I didn’t get that email. I watched the bunq livestream and yes they said “9 times higher” and when comparing to most traditional banks they are actual not wrong. Guess it depends on what traditional means.

                              “Enjoy the best interest in the world” depends on what means”the best”. Does it mean the highest rate? Or is it in a technical way like maybe that you get it on every account you have and not just on a savings account? Or maybe they had something else in mind. You know what I mean?

                              Like I said calling bunq liars because of a line like that is harsh.

                                @Heda#69045 I recognize it may be harsh but it is inded a factual lie. 0.27% is certainly not the best interest for a current account, much less a savings account.

                                As for what "best" means when talking about interest rates it can only mean higher, where talking about a number after all.

                                Then after clearing up they're comparing themselves with the rest of the world they say its 9 times higher that any traditional bank. This assertion clears up any doubt that they in fact do mean higher by saying "best" and its also a factual lie are there are a lot of traditional banks by any measure giving about higher interest rates in current accounts, so I'm not even going to delve into savings accounts

                                  @Filipe-Pink-Cheetah#69047 I just checked my mails again and I indeed got a message from them but it states this and there is no word being said about “the best interest” maybe you got a different mail or in different language but basically they should contain all the same information. It just says what we already said “9 times higher than any traditional bank on all accounts”

                                    Are you saying bunq can't figure out English? As it is, it's probably the most outrageous advertising claim I've seen from what I would otherwise consider a reputable company

                                      @Filipe-Pink-Cheetah#69049 Well maybe you can make a screenshot of the email just for clarification. After all bunq is a Dutch company and the German translations don’t always make 100 % sense either so i wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the same case with English.
