Hey guys!

I just wanted to sign up for formula 1 TV since the new season will start this weekend but unfortunately I cannot get my bunq card to work with it. I enter the card information and it keeps telling me the details are wrong or my card is not being accepted. I tried all my cards virtual once, physical once, MasterCard and maestro but there are all being declined.

My N26 Mastercard on the other hand works flawlessly.

Has anyone else experience with this service and/or an idea why my card won’t work?

Help would be appreciated!

@Heda#73046 Maestro is not working online, at no merchant. You only get the card details for G Pay and Apple Pay.

@Heda#73046 Do you see any event in your events tab in the bunq App about it?

@johannes#73065 Well like amazon.co.uk F1 TV let’s you chose maestro or MasterCard for payments. You can specifically chose maestro. But that’s not the point. 🤪

And no i don’t see something in my events. The website does not even allow me to save the card details. I enter everything and then hit save. But then it shows in red text that these card details are not „ok“. Never had that before.

@Heda#73067 Websites can accept maestro's, but bunqs Maestro cards are not supporting online payments :) that's what I meant here.

@Heda#73067 If you don't see any event, it's probably not getting blocked at bunqs end. Did you contact Amazon already?

@johannes#73068 Ok now i understand you. But there must be something wrong with bunqs cards or the numbers or maybe is it has something to do with the region? I’m from Germany and try to sign up for F1 TV ( not Amazon) and bunq is durch so maybe is that a problem? Can a merchant tell from the number the country the card was issued in?

@Heda#73070 bunq is doing it the same way N26 is doing it. When you order a bunq card to Germany, it will get "detected" as a German card for merchants, if you order it to Austria, it's getting detected as an Austrian card.
This is done by the 7. and 8. digit of your bunq card number. Germany is 03, Austria 04.

So there shouldn't be any problem here, if it's also working with a N26 card sent to the same address

@johannes#73071 Thanks for the info. All my cards from bunq were sent to same address as my N26 card. All cards have the 03 in it so that shouldn’t be the problem then. Still strange that N26 works and bunq not. I’ll reach out to the F1 customer service once they open up. Maybe they can help.

@Heda#73070 I would guess, that the reason has to do with Formula1 TV Licensing/Broadcasting Rights. TVNow (German RTL group) does also not accept bunq and other cards like revolut/boon but accept N26 MC or VimPay MC. They check they country were the card is issued. I don't know if they have the right to refuse foreign cards, but maybe it's legitimate to do some sort of geofencing for TV Broadcasting (because of special rights?)
                    TVNow Screenshot:
                    1. They refused the bunq Mastercard
                    2. They refused the bunq IBAN

@SimonM#73075 Normally your bunq card should get detected as a German card, if sent to Germany. Maybe it's wrong in the database, because for me - with my Austrian card - there is no problem, all merchants detect it as an Austrian card

@SimonM#73075 If this wouldn't be the case no apple bunq user would even be able to add their card to the iTunes store, because they also check the country of your card :)

@SimonM#73075 I guess then that’s the problem then. I’m still trying to contact the F1 support. Hopefully they can fix it.

@johannes#73082 The card is german and is detected as german by itunes/Apple-ID. But TVNow (RTL) is more rigid. They have accepted N26 and VIMPAY but refused bunq-card. I tested this at different times. Last tested it 5 minutes ago. If somebody else, has succesfull added his/her bunq card to TVNow I would be very curios.

I gave them my german address and my "newly produced" online card (03) with new registration the answered with:

I tried to change my card, from german Prepaid card (VIMPAY) to bunq, they gave my a red !

@SimonM#73086 I asked support to investigate, because this sound like TVnow (and F1) use a payment provider with not up to date data or so, because as you said - it's working for example with iTunes :)

@Heda#73046 Maybe they are using stripe.com as payment processor, this provider returns the country-code "AT" for my Dutch Mastercard 🤨
Or the F1 site is using an old 3D secure validation method...

@johannes#73087 It could be a problem with the recurring payment. Maybe it is not a problem of the country, but of not using 3D secure and wanting to enable a monthly subscription?

Can't see which payment service provider they are using:

@Bastiaan#73090 I get no Entry in the Events-Tab in bunq, I guess they (TVNow) block it before they try it. Is there an option for a PSP to detect if a card can be used for subscriptions (or not).

Dann musst du den CVC ändern...
