• bunq.me Privacy

Hey,

I wish more privacy at bunq.me

For example:

- delete the Profile Picture (change it to something else)

- remove the real Name (change it to a nickname)

    Hey Matthias,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

At bunq we do value privacy, but also transparency😊

The profile picture that others can see is chosen by you, so you do not have to put up a picture of you, but maybe one that represents your project.

Regarding the name, as bunq.me is a feature that allows other users or anyone that is willing to donate money to your project we believe that should also have the right to know who they are donating to.

Also, like any other transaction when users make a payment to you they will see your complete name.

Hope this clarifies any of your doubts😊

    Now time to enjoy bunq.me👍

My bunq.me page shows my full name, although I have set a "Publicly Visible Name" to something else. A bug perhaps?

        Hi Michiel,

My apologies for the miscommunication from my part, it is indeed not possible to show your 'Publicly Visible Name'.

For bunq.me you have to show your full name, this is for transparency reasons, just like it appears in your monetary transactions.

I have also edited my previous comment to prevent further confusion.

        Cheers!

Most people, especially regarding my projects, don’t know me by my initials but rather first name last name. It would be nice if we can choose the display name just like on the cards.

            Thanks for clarifying that!

But the Problem is that I like my profile picture for friends that they can recognise me at Slice and for strangers who donate no picture.

Did some testing today, just for the fun of it and it works pretty cool. I love even the little things as holding down the link to copy it on my clipboard. But there are some things I would like to suggest:

                  @Steffany-Green-Tiger-3565927607#11353 Hi Steffany,

I do understand the full name is shown on your bank statement when a payment is done. Currently, however, even without sending a payment, full names of bunq.me users are out in the open. The possibility of crawling generated bunq.me links exists, with the objective of building a database or collection of Bunq users.

I would be in favor of showing, for example, the first name and initials of the last name. This way person transferring money can still be sure to a certain extent the money ends up in the right account, whereas full names are not exposed without the necessity.

I assume the current practice could even be against the GDPR. One could argue bunq.me users give permission themselves, but that feels like a weak reason and without proper grounds.

I also noticed that your IBAN is visible for everybody with your bunq.me link. It would be nice if it was hidden, because of privacy reasons (and the payer doesn’t need your IBAN as well). Tikkie does hide your IBAN and I think it’s one of the reasons people prefer Tikkie over bunq.me

@Bram#25336 with your bunq account (when using Premium that is) you have 25 IBANs at your disposal. You can create a dedicated IBAN for your bunq.me link. 😀 That doesn't "solve" the name thing but it's something. When you want to go one level further you can close the IBAN and create a new one every once in a while, you will have a brand new IBAN then. Personally I think it's a good thing to know where your money ends up, with Tikkie it's going to an intermediate account as far as I know, then you have no way to know where it ends up afterwards. 😋

@reef#965 What is a bit unusual is if I check common names like bunq.me/NAME, where NAME is ‘Joost’, ‘Ana’, ‘Lieke’, whatever, and then random amount, I see people names and bank accounts.

Hence one can write some sort of (smart) scraper and get hundreds names and bank accounts.
I like the service, but can this be right? How can Bunq ensure that my privacy is protected?

@Sergej-Maroon-Puma#26701 I think you have a point here. At least bunq should display a CAPTCHA before showing the IBAN connected to bunq.me
Yes, this might be less convenient, but it protects sensitive data, at least from website scrapers

It doesn't really seem fair that users of other banks do get to put just their first name on their bunq.me link. Should I just get an account at ING and sign up with bunq.me with my ING account if I want privacy? :/
