  • I'm still salty about the removal of joint memberships which was the selling point for my partner and me. And now they increase the price again. Bunq would never have been a choice for us if we knew we'd pay 18€ instead of 10€ like we did in the beginning. Within 1.5 years that's an 80% price increase...

    • I also had to trial & error my way through the profile screen in order to get rid of it. Not very helpful.

To add to this Android discussion: Apparently on iOS you can swipe on transactions or long press them to add notes. This is also broken on Android.

        • @Peter-Weet-Beter#214842 Interesting! When I swipe a transaction on Android, I only get the options "Request" and "Split". Long press does nothing...

          • If I want to add a note to a transaction, I need to tap the rainbow menu button to get the option for adding a note.
This is an unnecessary detour. When you need to add many notes to several transactions, it's just annoying.
I'd like to be able to add the note directly from the transaction's view again, as shown in this screenshot:
            image

            • Following example: I pay "Article X" online with Paypal. I have Paypal linked to my bunq account named "Personal", so around 2 days later I get a direct debit request on "Personal". In the prompt where I can accept or deny the direct debit, I can select the bunq account that is used for the direct debit. In the rainbow menu button, I can add a note to the transaction.
Say I want to add the note "Article X" to the direct debit, so I later know what it was. I tap the menu button and add a note. After this, I select that I don't want to pay the direct debit from account "Personal", but from my other account called "Savings". I accept the request and the money is transferred successfully from "Savings". I now go into my account "Savings" and view the transaction. (After going through this bug first.) The note didn't save, and I have to add it again to the finished transaction.
If I don't change the account during the prompt, the note saves successfully.
In short: If you add a note to a transaction before changing the account, it doesn't save

In the same vein: Some weeks/months ago, it was possible to add the note directly from the direct debit prompt or in a transaction view. Now, you have take the detour via the menu button. I very much liked it the way it was before, now you have an unnecessary extra tap...

I am using Android 10, app version 16.0.2

              • It also happens after transferring money between my accounts for example.

                • I am not sure when exactly this started, but lately the app often loads forever after I make a payment and the view goes back to the account. After I accept an invoice from paypal for example: I accept the invoice, the view goes back to the account and I see how much money I have, but the transactions won't load. I then go back to my accounts overview and tap on the same account. Now, the transactions load pretty much immediately, but not the latest ones. It shows me transactions from around the middle of december on top. I then pull down to refresh, and only then the current transactions load. It's pretty annoying when I just want to see a confirmation for my payment in the transaction overview.
I am on Android 10, app version 15.9.2

                  • Yes, this would make things so much easier. I encounter the same problem with my partner multiple times a week. We have multiple shared accounts and our cards usually default to our groceries account. Instead of hastily changing the linked account while shopping, we often use the request feature on the payment some time afterwards.
Adding each other to our circles of trust also doesn't help. No matter who owns the shared account and who requests the money, it never accepts it automatically.

                    • @Jakob-Y#139873 I'm all for using our own IBAN for the Sofort payments. I noticed that the IBAN was not my personal IBAN when use Sofort to top up my account from another bank account.

I recently cancelled two tickets from Deutsche Bahn which I had paid via Sofortüberweisung, and I got scared that I wouldn't receive my refund because of this IBAN issue. Especially after reading that you didn't get your refund from Deutsche Bahn in another thread. But it seems that someone, whether it might be bunq, Klarna or Deutsche Bahn, updated their services, because today I received my refund.
Still, I think it would be nice if the personal IBAN would be used for these transfers.

                      • I agree that it's very confusing that the menu bar disappears on some screens. I also stepped into the trap of tapping my back button for example on the camera/us/profile tabs, expecting to end up at the me tab. Meaning I closed the app multiple times without wanting to. The me tab should act like the Home screen in the app in my opinion.

Yesterday, bunq released this thread about discovering more functions in V3. This means they even recognize that the app is not intuitive. But instead of improving it they just release a manual? Bunq is supposed to be the bank that makes life easy and saves time. How does V3 make banking easier and faster than V2? I still think it's a big downgrade from the previous experience.
Next to this, the tutorial for adding a receipt is wrong: In the video, they tap on a transaction and then on the flash, and a menu pops up where you have the different options. When I open the app, I just see all options directly on the transaction page without needing the flash. This also illustrates nicely why the flash is leading to an oversimplification of the app. Why introduce an extra button when all the features are right there?

transaction view flash menu my screen
From left to right: tutorial transaction view, tutorial flash menu, my android app (which I updated half an hour ago)
I think this also shows that the grey dark mode looks better than the black dark mode, it's incredibly hard to read stuff and see visual guides on that black background.

Some people say that the latest updates in V3 were a big improvement. I don't see it this way. Small things changed, but the fundamental design choices in V3 are just not right for usability.

                        • @thijsoost#181317 Light mode looks even worse. The old grey mode was perfect. Even this website uses grey dark mode. Why is the app completely black?
To me, this update reminds me of a process that I experienced a number of times in the gaming world. You have a running system which is pretty nice. Developers make weird choices for some reason, update their game, make a huge mess and the community complains. They keep the mess they made but improve it, saying that they are listening, and in the end there is an "improved" product that is still inferior to the old one. After a year the community is exhausted of complaining and got used to the new thing...
Bunq please, don't make it play out like this. I can see that you are trying to improve V3, but some things cannot be fixed if they went wrong at the start.

                          • Newest version on Android:

                            • Flash is better than plus
                            • Inside the Me flash menu, the (most used) pay/request/add money buttons are at the top now, so I have to tap flash at the bottom, then move the thumb all the way up. Maybe have those three buttons slide out of the flash to the side (instead of top) and show those other account opening options above? Having those buttons directly on the Me tab would still be better to save a tap, but I guess that you really have to stick with that new button because it is what distinguishes V3 from V2 most. Removing it would be admitting that it was a bad choice to have it, which I guess you don't want to say. (But I would really love it if you would do that, because that shows you genuinely listened to all these comments.)
                            • When I use this new Pay button in the flash menu, it automatically selects one of my accounts for sending which can only be changed in the final overview. Maybe include a selection for the sending account in the payment flow, just like you choose the recipient? Same thing goes for Request.
                            • Percentage on saving goals is better than actual amount.
                            • On an account page, I can see Money requested in the left circle now. Maybe that option makes sense for business accounts, because they request a lot? I don't know. But for me, 99% of the time this will say 0,00€. Please make it optional to use the circles, or make them customizable. At the moment, they just waste a lot of space for me.
                            • @arne-from-iliades#180208 That Help each other sends you to the Ask the Community section of together. I didn't find a way to see the entire together forum inside the app, yet.

                              • @danvierich#180257 That seems nice actually. (The accounts, not the circles.) Just add an icon to see whether an account is linked to a card or not, like it was before.

A general idea: It would be nice if you could select to link an existing card directly from an account screen. When I'm in an account and tap "Linked Card", the big plus button only allows me to order a new card. It should be possible to select an existing card as well. Or am I missing something?

                                • @Max-Teal-Jaguar#180021 This comparison is such a no brainer.
Sure, some stuff like the camera tab in V3 are nice, but I seriously don't understand how bunq considers this an improvement at all...

BTW for me, Cards and Total are shown the other way around and I can't move them like the other accounts. Can you move them or were they like this already? I'm just curious since I am on Android.

                                  • @hundmitklampfe#179753 Same thing for me. I open the app and sometimes it takes some seconds to show me the accounts. Can you maybe include this lost time into the "Time Saved"? Maybe that makes this number a little more realistic.

Next to all the usability issues, I'd also like to mention that V3 is just ugly to me. The three circles at the top look simply ugly and like the somebody's first attempt in making an app.

                                    • I mean, it's good that custom account pictures are back. But the current implementation feels like a band aid and just shows that V3 wasn't made to work with account pictures. Now, it's difficult to read the account balance because it is overlayed on top of the picture. Unless your image is dark with a low contrast. And once you select an account, you can't even see the picture in the account anymore?
I still prefer a list with a picture and the balance next to it which also directly shows if a card is linked to the account. And the dark mode is just way too dark. Sure, it might be great for AMOLED screens but I cannot properly see many visual guides unless I turn my brightness up to 100%.

On a side note, I have the feeling V3 takes longer to load and show my balances than it did in V2, but that might be imagination.

                                      • @Claudia-Magenta-Quokka#179112 Earlier today, my shared accounts also disappeared again. There was an update for bunq ready in the playstore again. I tapped on update and then I could see the accounts again.

@bunq It's still unacceptable that we cannot see our accounts.

                                        • Bugs that I found in my Android app

                                          • The pictures for the accounts are not visible. When I personalize an account it still shows the picture from before V3. When I then approve that picture, the account colour goes to black but the picture can only be seen in the events.
                                          • When I tap on the IBAN in an account and then tap "Share", nothing happens.

                                          My feedback:

                                          • I know it has been fixed now, but I'm really mad about not being able to access my joint accounts. Not being able to access your bank account is a huge no-no. I pay for this service and I trust you with my money. You are literally taking away access to my money. Sure, I can pay with my card that is linked to the account but I cannot see how much money I have or transfer money. It's unacceptable to say "Oops that's a bug in the new app, we'll resolve it asap" when access to my money is the thing I pay you for. I cannot imagine that this bug was not apparent in the beta or even during in-house testing?
                                          • I don't care how much money, CO2 or time I saved by using this app. I care about how much money I have on my accounts -> get rid of the circles in the "Me" tab, at least make them optional. (And count how many people keep it enabled?)
                                          • I dislike the black dark mode. It's difficult to read stuff at daylight. In the "Me" tab, it's difficult to see the button of "Total" and "Cards". When you set a picture for an account, you cannot even see the button for that account because it turned black. I enjoyed the grey dark mode from before. Please make that an option again, as well as the light mode.
                                          • The name of the accounts is difficult to read because it's coloured. -> Just make the name of the account white against the coloured background (like you did with the balance).
                                          • It took me a long time to find out that the events are in the "Total" section, a heads up for that would be nice.
                                          • I understand that you try to keep this three circle theme throughout the entire app, but it doesn't make sense, because it hides stuff behind another tap. It definitely doesn't make things easier. When I go to my EC card, I have to tap a circle to get to the linked accounts instead of just showing them already. The map is shown but the accounts not? I certainly need to change accounts more often than checking out where I can use my card. The accounts could even be shown in the "Cards" screen already. Same thing goes for each account screen: Just show me which card is linked instead of hiding it behind a circle with a template card inside. In many cases these circles just don't show any useful information. (Who needs a profile completion circle?)
                                          • I think the three circles at the top (especially when looking at an account) just don't look good, and make the app look "cheap". Instead of looking "designed", it simply looks like what it is: three circles with some stuff inside. I don't understand what the logo in the balance prediction circle is supposed to be and it's not even looking good. The card in the right circle is also too small to even see it properly.
                                          • I don't care at all for the "Us" tab. That stuff can be hidden in some settings etc but I don't need to accidentally tap that button and spend my mobile data on instagram posts.
                                          • The + button just doesn't make sense. It's a plus, which normally lets you add stuff. However, it often acts like an extra menu button?
                                          • It does not seem like there was an experienced UI-designer involved. Like somebody said, it seems that the marketing team had a big say in V3.
