  • Together Forums: I'm sorry, but it's a mess

Since bunq is growing, the questions and feature requests through Together are growing as well. This results in a lot more questions and answers.

Right now, it seems that there are a bunch of users that do not care about the language of the thread, but rather answer in their own language. Going through topics trying to find something out is extremely annoying when everyone decides to answer in their native language rather than sticking to either English or the language of the original post. The Google Translate functionality helps, but isn't that good cause you're always trying to decypher what some things mean.

Bunq. Please. Structure the Together forums:

  1. Label topics
    Create labels so it's easy to spot what the OP wants. Use [Question] [Feedback] [Feature Request] [Bug] as basics and [Open] or [Solved] as second label

  2. Separate languages
    When a user wants an answer to a question, they can either ask in their native language or English. If they ask in their native language, the topic should only be shown to people from that country. If the question is in English, it should be shown globally

  3. One-topic-one-language
    Please do not allow users to post in their native language if this differs from the original post. I start seeing more and more English topics with German answers. Then the following answers in English. The following in Spanish. It's annoying and decreases the quality of the knowledge base that's being developed here.

    Er bestaan al "tags" maar die kan je als gewone gebruiker niet toevoegen aan een post.

    Er zijn trouwens ook landen met meer dan 1 taal, dus punt 2 kan al niet tenzij bunq ook iets gaat maken om de taalvoorkeur op te slaan. Of bedoel je dat mensen alleen berichten in hun eigen taal mogen lezen en beantwoorden? Dat zou dan wel erg knullig zijn voor de mensen die meer dan 1 taal kunnen spreken danwel de mensen die in een taal posten die nauwlijks wordt gebruikt.

        Labels are already being used (though, you can't search for them in the app unfortunately.

        This will separate the forum in smaller chunks, which is not preferable either. The translation is a big step forward already and where possible moderators will try to pull a topic towards English. However, we can't force people to use a particular language. 🤔

        We do not allow multiple topics on the same topic currently, which seems to conflict somewhat with this idea. With the auto-translations this has been simplified somewhat. See also this topic (https://together.bunq.com/d/6774-languages-in-together) where this issue has been discussed extensively btw. I don't think we should force people to use the language of the opening post; there's a lot of knowledge in this community and people are willing to share their knowledge, but not everyone speaks all languages obviously. Then we would limit enthusiastic bunqers in their ability to help out others. 🤔

        As moderators we always collect these kinds of feedback and we are in talks with bunq employees almost every day, exchanging ideas how to improve things here, so definitely keep the ideas coming, we will definitely discuss them. 🙂

          ad 2 & 3: I‘ve (tried to) helped people asking questions in languages I don‘t write many times. I honestly don’t ‘t see it as very beneficial if this (multilingual) aspect of the community were to be lost.

          While machine translation isn’t perfect and somewhat of a makeshift solution, I don‘t see it as a huge issue here. It seems mostly good enough. Though I am only going to write in languages that feel I can be comfortable and concise in (that is, I consider machine translation as a reading tool only, not a writing tool).

          In short: I think the benefits of multilingualism outweigh the downsides, at least for now.

          Having said that, I agree the forums does not seem very structured overall, and the search functionality and tagging system all that useful or efficient (which is not to say it‘d be better without).

            Scrivo in italiano! Trovo la possibilità di interagire con gli altri con il sistema di traduzione Google (che funziona abbastanza bene), un’idea geniale! Questo rendere il mondo e le persone più vicine! 😀

                Assuming that country=language is also limiting. I dont speak the language of the country that I live in as well as Two other languages
