Additional questions about bunq Travel Card

Will I also be able to buy airplane tickets that require credit card? Of course I need to have the amount in my account, but will it work as a credit card then as well or just for deposits for hotels and car rentals? Thanks!

Marcelo Voor de winkeliers is de Travel Card een credit card dus in principe kan je er alles mee wat je met een andere credit card ook kan bij die winkelier.

The Travel Card is recognized as a credit card by terminals. It works like any other credit card only your limit is your actual balance.

Marcelo Voor jou werkt de Travel Card net als een debit card. Je kan alleen geld uitgeven wat op de Travel Card staat (of op de gekoppelde bankrekening).

Voor de winkelier is het dus geen debit card. Als zij die wel per se willen hebben dan moet je een andere betaalkaart hebben. Kom je vaak tegen dat een credit card niet wordt geaccepteerd en een debit card wel? In mijn (beperkte) ervaring is dat juist altijd andersom.

So in my understanding, this is a normal debit card and has the perk of also being accepted as a credit card for all the travel (hotel, airplane tickets, car rentals) expenses. Marcelo Nee, het is een credit card voor alle winkeliers waar je hem wil gebruiken. Dat is dus anders.

Ik ken alleen geen voorbeelden van winkels die wel een debit card accepteren maar geen credit card. Andersom zijn die er wel: hotels, auotverhuur en dat soort bedrijven accepteren meestal alleen credit card.

Voor jou maakt het niets uit. Als je geen geld hebt kan je het niet uitgeven. Er zit geen krediet op wat je aan het eind van de maand moet betalen (of een hoge rente betalen).

Marcelo Klopt, maar de debit MasterCard accepteren ze daar ook niet. Enkele AH's accepteren wel een credit card, bijvoorbeeld op Schiphol, treinstations en diverse in Amsterdam.

When ING got Apple to introduce Apple Pay in the Netherlands officially, their spokesperson commented on why it had taken longer in the Netherlands than other countries: the efficiency with which debit cards were used virtually everywhere, at the expense of credit cards, which are more common in most other markets. Specifically, maestro cards, and not Debit Mastercards, as that would have enabled Mastercard creditcards to be used as well, but there is a decided (cost based) resistance to credit card usage by Dutch retailers.

Eric * Tech 🇳🇱🇨🇦🇮🇸 Ja, ik moet ook nog zien of Apple Pay het in Nederland gaat worden. Als de winkelier meer moet betalen voor die transacties of de banken er zelf minder aan over houden, wat is dan de reden om hier aan te beginnen?

Maar het zal er wel op neerkomen dat over een tijdje iedere transactie duurder is en de hogere prijs verwerkt zit in de prijs die je als consument voor de spullen die je koopt moet betalen.

Marcelo Als je nu een Maestro hebt dan kan je die zeker niet zo maar vervangen door een Travel Card (ook niet door een debit MasterCard trouwens). Maestro en MasterCard betaalkaarten zijn twee verschillende producten en de acceptatie van beiden door winkeliers is dan ook volkomen anders.

People, do not pass to Travel Card, the basic account features are suddenly disappeared, while when I adhere to this offer I naturally thought that I would have received the card as extra but keeping the normal basic membership, I have just wrote to support asking to bring me back to basic otherwise how do I pay my utilities ?!?!?!

Sorry to hear that it wasn't clear to. In my personal opinion bunq 🌈 did explain it clearly upfront. There even was an FAQ topic and a topic to ask any questions you might have.

But of course, bunq will take your feedback into account.

Mauro you're referring to an old discontinued membership. The (old, discontinued) Free membership does not include any cards. The new Travel membership does, but does not include an IBAN anymore (not everything can be free, there must be something to tempt customers to go for Premium). Hence the solution is very simple, upgrade to Premium and get all the features for one fee. 😁👍 (and yes, that's more expensive than a Free plan, I'm well aware, but you're also using services that cost bunq money)

John Do Not clear at all because as for most of the online/app purchaes nobody reads general terms and conditions, if u guys propose a free Travel card how can a user even doubt that the product will be completely changed, I got somebody from support to bring me back to basic, which is the reason why I think u guys are great and the reason why I opened my account with u, thx

Sander This is something that caused the issue and I think that if this mechanism was clear before I would have not activated the travel card even with the option of inviting 3 friends, that means zero efforts not even 9,99 euro to pay....easy way I was trapped in the misunderstanding...I think you should consider to make this clearer, also in the promo email;-)

What if I upgrade to bunq Travel with a Free or More membership?
As a Free or More member, you can always upgrade to bunq Travel within your Profile in the app. Keep in mind that once you do so, you can no longer revert back to a Free or More membership.

Mauro Dude, don't just click shiny buttons. For stuff like bank accounts of course you read the terms and conditions. Personally I've already read bunq's a few times in total.

I agree with Sander. Sure I can understand not everyone reads terms and conditions in detail (although, bunq made them very easy to read). But, their were several topics here on Together explaining all you need to know about the Travel Card. And if you had any questions, you could have asked them on Together or via Support.

So, yes bunq 🌈 has the obligation to inform their users, but again.. users also have the obligation to inform themselves before ordering something.
