  • bunq Update 12 features: additional questions

I have a question or idea:

Possibility to create my own Insights Categories?

+1 to add categories for insights or have more to choose to show/hide to customise it to suit your own life.

For the future I would love to connect more than two bunq accounts to my card with pin codes. At the moment the maximum is two.

Four would be good for me. For example:
      Account: Pin code:
      - day to day = 0000
      - fuel. = 0001
      -groceries = 0002
      - eating out = 0003

      Thanks

Love the new update! Adding your own categories would be a real valuable addition. I also like the idea of having the account balance graph move along with the transaction list, as proposed above 👌

It feels kinda bad that there isn't an "insurance" category so that you have to either book them as subscription (which I consider to be for optional, often pleasure related, recurring transactions) or as something like "personal care" or "household expenses" (I guess that makes the most sense at the moment?)

Family should also be "& Friends" but I guess that's not as urgent of a problem

How to desactivat Predict your balance. I don't like this feature

Does anybody else experience the bug that you can't change the category of some of the expenses? I have two recurring payments that are always reverted to "General". I've also reported this to Support, however.

Also, I desperately want to be able to switch this feature (and also the "Predict your balance" graph) off. I don't really want to use them. They rather increase the time I have to spend on banking - and until now, the good thing was that bunq was the bank account that didn't get in my way.

Also, I must say this update for me was rather underwhelming. I expected a lot, but the only really cool feature which I would make use of everyday (receipt scanning) is only available for business users. bunq Update 12 seems to me more like a "let's-add-some-N26-and-Revolut-functions update". No big innovation this time.

EDIT: Sorry, just saw that other people experience the categorization bug with recurring payments as well.

Great update with nice new features!

For the insights thing (with the donut): It would be nice if you can have that view per account. I have business and personal bankaccounts so a seperate overview would be welcome.

The Auto-VAT feature is nice with deduction of tax for paid invoices but Auto-VAT still doesn't work for bunq.me payments. This is a known problem. See my earlier post:
                https://together.bunq.com/d/19040-tax-savings-don-t-work-with-bunq-me-payments

The scanning feature is nice but I'm a bit dissapointed that it's another paid feature. 2€ sounds pretty okay but it all adds up (Business fee, transaction fees, paying for requests, auto VAT, SEPA payments etc).

As for the scanning: It would be awesome if the scanned receipts / invoices are sent to other accounting platforms like moneybird, moneymonk etc. Now I need to scan my invoices in Bunq and send them to my accounting software (in my case Moneybird). Would that be possible with some API-magic? ;-)

                Just my €0,02.

For the rest I'm very happy with update #12. Nice Job!

@AdOrbit#120600 For the insights thing (with the donut): It would be nice if you can have that view per account. I have business and personal bankaccounts so a seperate overview would be welcome.

You can filter by account, just just the filter button at the top of your screen.

@Bifi#119752 Completely agree. I just don't want to see this annoying graph on each and every account detail view. A waste of screen space extraordinary! Please put this somewhere "behind" a user preference. You know what is happening with bunq (as with almost software products / companies): FEATURE CREEP :(

I wrote this earlier this day on bunq's Facebook:

"bunq is amazing. Unfortunately it will (as almost every other tech company) "lose itself" in feature creep happening all over. People get lost in a sea of posibillities that are not at all life enriching as Ali is mentioning. It will actually lead to more stress. Less overview, less efficiency, more screen time, for features that are a bloat to the core of the app."

Less is more! Keep it simple!

Off course things like Apple Pay are kind of cool. Also not really a game changer. What is the problem with a bank card? What really appealed to me three years ago was a "bank" that was transparent and didn't invest our money into malicious companies and came with a crisp and clear app with cool basic features for security, ease of use, ease of onboarding.

What happens now is that the technological possibilities and human creativity will bloat the app more and more over time until you end up like Facebook nowadays. Completeley feature creeped. What's next? bunq displaying things to buy from other bunqers like a marketplace and Ali telling us how it will "Enrich our life" Get real!

Be brave and reduce the possibilities whereever possible and don't give us a AI/Machine learning (popular terms) algorithm hardly researched over time and very error prone most probably (because this is for scientists not for developers).

                    My two cents...

@AdOrbit#120600 you can select which accounts are taken into account for the "donut" -> another feature creep thing. It looks kinda nice but doesn't really interest the majority of users. Nice to have a look at once and then it is forgotten.

Ich suche gerade nach der Möglichkeit, meine Kassenbons zu scannen, damit diese automatisch zugeordnet werden. Oder gibt es das nur für Business Accounts? Scannen geht entweder nur QR oder Rechnungen (für Überweisungen).

@pbruins84#120607 Ah, found it! Thanks 👍🏻

@Heiko-Hartwig#120708 Ja, dieses Feature gibt es momentan nur für Business-Konten. Wäre vielleicht sinnvoll, das auch irgendwie für private Konten einzuführen.

                              @Michael-Indigo-Badger-440710752#119765

This will make it so much better!

Please add an option to hide the graph in account detail view

I really appreciate the update! Exactly the kind of features I expect of bunq. Especially the insights feature is really useful to me personally.

The only trend I see in most of the bunq Updates is that they introduce new features without an option to turn them off. I do understand that it is impossible to add features that are useful to every customer, but almost all features included in bunq Updates are always on by default, usually without a way to turn them off.

Personally I prefer that features are launched only when they can also be turned off, and then preferably turned off by default.

Don't get me wrong, I use most features and will immediately turn these on, but it is a drag to have that one feature that you don't be in the way so that you can't use the app productively anymore.

One thing I'd really appreciate is to be able to create my own category for that "donut graph" with my own icon/photo like you can when you create a group.

The categories right now seem too limited and vague
