• Using Travel Card In Greece

Hello to all,
My card is activated via the App and as I'm planning a trip to Turkey soon, I thought I'd better get it to work in an Atm
here in Chania, Crete first were I live.
Well, it has not worked at 4 ATM machines from National Bank of Greece, Piraeus, Euro Bank and Euro Net.
Tried to check balance and then a message appears 'Contact your bank' in Greek and English .
I will change the PIN via the App, and try another day.
Anybody else had problems ?
Note. No problems at all with the Bunq Debit Card.

Hi. Just to check the balance ,which is a normal request worldwide .

Balance check doesn‘t always have to work with every ATM and every kind of card. I wouldn‘t worry about it if that‘s the only thing you tried.

I will visit the Attica Bank in a few days time and report back.

@Stephen-Lime-Jaguar#137855 I actually activated my Travel Card in Kos City while I was there last summer for vacation. It was at an ATM of Alpha Bank with a withdrawal.

So that works for sure. Maybe give that a try. Surely there must be an Alpha Bank at Crete.

              Thank's for the info Sam.
Yes, there is Alpha Bank here in Chania, Crete. :-)
I will try their ATM as well.

I'm happy to report a successful cash withdrawal from an Alpha Bank ATM.
And they charged me 2.50€ for the privilege, which I expected.
People who plan to visit Greece may be interested to know what the major Banks will charge you and myself.
Attica, Bank of Chania and HSBC have no ATM fees as mentioned on another thread.
                This from August last year.

Expenses 4 euro per transaction plus 2% on the withdrawal amount with a minimum of 1 euro and a maximum of 30 euro per transaction.

Kann ich so nicht nachvollziehen. Habe vor ein paar Tagen bei der Piräus Bank für eine Abhebung von 100 Euro genau 3 Euro Gebühren bezahlt.

Yes, Niko, 3 € is the current charge using their ATM's, Still too much in my opinion, but as the Greek Banks are suffering from NPL (Non Performing Loans) they charge this.

Attica Bank charges too now. 2.3 or 2.5. Chania Bank charges 2.5. I am not sure about HSBC, should be still free.

@Stephen, they are suffering from greed mostly.

Thanks for the info re Attica & Chania Bank etc.

@Stephen-Lime-Jaguar#137882 Good to here you managed to activate the card at Alpha Bank.

Funny how someone from The Netherlands is able to help a Greek local on Together with his issue with Greek banks. Gotta love a pan-European bank...

Just an update, HSBC charges EUR 2.5 for withdrawals now.
