Hey bunqers 🌈
If you file a tax return in a country outside the Netherlands, you may need to submit information about your balances and/or earned Interest. Our aim is to ensure that everyone has the necessary information to complete their tax reports promptly and accurately.
Why do I need to report my bunq accounts in my tax return?
bunq is a bank registered in the Netherlands. This means that if you live in France, Ireland, Spain or Germany, you need to report the max balances and interest you’ve earned as foreign Bank Accounts. You need to do this regardless of whether your IBANs start with NL, FR, DE, ES or IE. You can find all the information on balances, account numbers and Interest on your Annual Statement here.
Who does this apply to?
Declaring Bank Accounts
Users with verified Personal or Business accounts residing in Germany, France, Ireland, and Spain should declare their bunq Bank Accounts to the tax authorities.
Declaring gained interest
Additionally, users residing in Germany, France, Ireland, and Spain who perceive MassInterest should declare the interest gained throughout the year to the local tax authorities.
Why should I report my bunq Bank Account and interest gained?
If you're living in one of the above-mentioned countries, you’ll have to fill in your bunq accounts within your annual income/corporate tax return. As your account is held by a Dutch bank, regardless of the IBAN type, failure to declare these balances and interest to your local authority can lead to serious consequences
The Bank Accounts of Dutch users are the only ones that will be automatically declared in their online tax reporting. That’s why we want to make sure all other users from Germany, France, Ireland, and Spain report their Bank Accounts or interest gained throughout the year on time.
Note: We don't support the Freistellungsauftrag exemption and German users should declare their gained interest rate accordingly.
