I just tried my own bunq.me link. I typed in 5 EUR, which later (after I had chosen the payment type) turned into 5.02 EUR. I authorised the payment by credit card. I got charged 5.02 EUR. In Bunq I received 5 EUR. Strange, huh?

paying by credit card is plus a fee, as is clearly stated
@Ulrich-Azure-Starfish#167519 yes, and the fee was applied to my bunq account. That's not what I mean. When you type in the amount (5 EUR) you get to the next screen. There it says "You are making a payment of €5.00 to: Max". Then you choose your payment type. Then it suddenly changes to 5.02 EUR. That doesn't make sense to me and shouldn't have anything to do with fees.
yes, depending on the payment type it charges a fee. there us no card paying fee for a private account in itself on your account, but if you pay a bunq.me link via credit card it shows you that fees are charged.
@Ulrich-Azure-Starfish#167524 I'm sure that's not the reason. If someone uses my bunq.me link and decides to pay a certain amount, it shouldn't be changed later. And like I said, the fees were applied to my account, too, as I would expect them to get applied. This is an additional 0.02 EUR paid for by the person who attempts to pay me. This has to be a bug …
@Max-Azure-Sharks#167525 is the added amount €0.05 when the entered amount is €10 ?
@Bastiaan#167528 Yes.
@Max-Azure-Sharks#167525 I checked it again and there’s definitely no information about fees on those screens. If this really were a feature and not a bug then it definitely should be transparent to the person who’s attempting to pay. But again, I wouldn’t even know what fees would apply that’d have to be paid by the payee.
@Max-Azure-Sharks#167531 I wouldn’t even know what fees would apply that’d have to be paid by the payee.
Credit card processing fees. For your account the fee structure is still 0.5% that are paid by the payee. That's why you get to these amounts. (2 cents when paying 5 euro etc.) This will change soon, however. The change was announced in early April. Now it'll be 2.5% instead, but paid for by the owner of the bunq.me page.
This means that in the future if someone pays you 5 euro on your bunq.me and chooses credit card payment, you'll effectively only receive 4.87 Euros, as you'll be billed 13 cents as a fee for accepting it. The payee however will not anymore get charged 5.02 Euros, but only 5 Euros so this source of "confusion" will go away.
Here's the info page about this change from April: https://together.bunq.com/d/26526-update-on-pricing-for-bunq-me-credit-card-payments It doesn't explain it in detail, but that's what changed. The change will come into effect next week iirc. (Edit: Actually from tomorrow, see https://together.bunq.com/d/26300-additional-questions-about-the-supergreen/54 )
To make this clear, fees are only charged for credit cards and debit cards. There are no additional fees for payments via iDEAL, Sofort or other methods. And I think this is pretty clear on the bunq.me page. My account is also still on the old fee structure and it looks like this when sending 5 Euros. You can clearly see that when selecting card payment, that a 2 cent fee is added.
@Max-Azure-Sharks#167531 I think you’re a new customer (registered after April 2nd)? In that case it indeed looks like a bug.
@Bastiaan#167545 Yes, I am. I’m starting to understand it. Thank you.
@Jakob-Y#167535 Thank you for the clarifications! The fee doesn’t show up when using the bunq.me page though. I don’t know why the screenshot above does. Looks like the change has already been applied to the screens, but not the payment process itself. So this indeed almost solves my question.
My account summary does show a 2.5% fee that has been applied to the payment though. That’s why I didn’t assume that the 0.02 EUR would be fees, too. So it still looks like a bug to me, right?
With those upcoming changes in mind the question is solved for me for now. Thank you all!
@Max-Azure-Sharks#167582 Right, sorry I just kinda assumed you were a long time user from before the change. This is indeed then a bug. Hopefully it‘ll solve itself from tomorrow when the change goes live for everyone tomorrow. 👍
Hey @Max-Azure-Sharks#167517 ,
As explained by @Jakob-Y#167583 today the fee has been applied to all users. That also fixed the bug you reported. Thanks for letting us know 👍🏼
