• ⚠ Bunq free account not protected by deposit guarantee scheme (Depositogarantiestelsel)?

I was reading the therms and conditions and i noticed that the bunq basic account is not protected by the DepositGuaranteeScheme.. (Chapter 32) Why not? why is the money on the basic account treated differently?

When it's in the free account is it stored in an other database? seems weird to me, since you need to maintain 2 systems. why don't you keep it simple and make everybody happy by giving certainty that all of our money is save and sound.

i think this is especially today, when nobody reads the therms and conditions..

Bunq basic is not a real bank account (no IBAN). The free account is, has an IBAN and is protected by the DGS.

      Hello Laurens!

The free account is indeed covered by the Deposit Guarantee Scheme! Since we provide an IBAN with your account it's stored in the same system as the other accounts and therefore fall under the DGS. E-wallet accounts (pre-update basic) have other regulations but now our free accounts have IBANs so please worry not!

We will revisit the terms and conditions to see if this is not clear enough!

      Have a great day Laurens!

        Yes exactly!

I was wondering why this is the case?

Why doesn’t bunq offer the same protection for our basic users?

Could you pleaae confurm that the DSG applies to account holders regardless of their nationality? What's the volume it covers?
