Not everyone has the same CO2 footprint and, as we learned from the calculations bunq provided in The math behind bunq SuperGreen 🌳, not everyone will plant enough trees by just card payments for each € 100 in two years to really become CO2 free. Some might even not spend enough on card payments at all to become CO2 free. With CO2 free as a goal, instead of just spending couple of trees now and then, I can imagine some might want to speed up the process a bit.
With the bunq app already helping SuperGreen users to plant trees, my idea for improving the app is to add the possibility to pay for the planting of additional trees. This will help users speed up the process of becoming CO2 free, and especially with the option to set a CO2/tree target, it would be helpful to do this from the app and have one place where you can see all the trees you’ve planted.
This could perhaps be done at a fixed price-per-tree or with tiered pricing for packs of trees: the bigger the pack, the less cost-per-tree. Perhaps bunq will even get slightly better rates due to single party purchasing power.
On the Eden Reforestation website there are already ways to donate. It shouldn’t be too hard to set up a flow that this can be done straight from the bunq app, in a way that it attributes to the user’s tree count.
This could of course disturb the ranking in the upcoming Tribes-feature quite a bit, so perhaps none or only a limited amount of additionally planted trees should count towards the Tribes competition.
A big plus to buying extra trees would be users plant them without spending a bunch of their hard-earned cash with card payments on wasteful stuff they don’t actually need. They become CO2 free more quickly! 🌍
