Dear fellow bunqers,

As you already know bunq is all about making our life easier. And if you ask me that especially goes for budgeting. Budgeting might be a challenge for you sometimes. So, I thought it would be a cool idea if fellow bunqers would share their budgeting tips.

Let's start with a short sum-up of all the budget features:

My Personal favorite

With my old fashion bank, I sometimes struggled to keep track of my expenses. And I wasn't always able to predict the financial room I had that month. Fortunately, I was in a position where I wasn't on a tight budget. Nevertheless, I missed an overview. That all changed when I joined bunq. Since I use the sub-account feature budgeting became a breeze! My wife and I have around 11 sub-accounts we mostly share with each other (also very easy to do). For instance, we made separate sub-accounts for groceries, transport, subscriptions, and a few others. For our grocery sub-account, I made a recurring transfer so that we weekly have a new budget. That makes it all extremely easy to keep track of our spendings.

What is your tip?

So, if you have any budgeting questions or just want to share your tips... feel free to comment below! I love to hear your thoughts!

Sub accounts are pretty much the only budgeting feature I actively use.

I have a main running account for subscriptions and several sub accounts for hobby, clothes, holiday and savings. This works great for me.

I find the prediction features a bit too inaccurate and 'hidden away' to use. I mainly use the 'home' screen in the app to see my accounts and click through pages as little as possible.

The budget feature gets off to the wrong start by asking you to predict the coming month. Trying to predict the future shouldn't be part of budgeting.

The point of budgeting is spending wisely. Only budget money you have. Make a conscious effort to give each of your euros a job.

I started using Dyme recently. It’s an add-onto the Bunq app (I used it separately). They’re pretty good at analyzing recurring costs and incomes . They also help you save money by negotiating on your existing subscriptions. Very nifty and convenient.

Balance prediction is always wrong. Even for accounts where there is a pattern.
I only use the auto sorting feature and multiple subaccounts for budgeting which covers most of the things needed!
I also try to use the labeling but it’s lacking some fundamental labels like “baby expenses” or “donations”.

Since last update I have an issue with insights showing the wrong payments or payments double.

Further the new budget feature doesn’t work well; also showing wrong figures and settings is not working. This the 4th topic I‘m mentioning it in the hope it is read by someone able to put it under the attention.

Too bad the categories which bunq provides don’t suit my expenses. I group very different expenses under the few provided categories, which makes the most sense to me, but is very insufficient to budget on.
